My son is leaving on July 5th as well. Staying busy helps - sure I will need tissues but I know how good this is for him and allow him to serve this great country. So proud of him - neat knowing he will be with other fine sons like yours.

It's a difficult transition for both mom and future sailor. Yes, his life will forever be changed but that's not necessarily a bad thing. When my son left for boot camp April 20, 2016 I felt like I was losing the son I had known for 18 years. I didn't know whether I would like the new Navy son as much as the son I had raised. But inside, he is still the same kid - funny, forgetful, disorganized, highly intelligent and I still love him to pieces. I miss him - he is on the East Coast finishing C…
I miss him - he is on the East Coast finishing C school and I am in WA State but he has found his niche with the Navy. They organize him which allows his intelligence to blossom. Your son will find his niche also and will also find respect as a young man choosing his path. It is so hard to let them go but when we do, we allow them to grow up and we begin a new relationship with them as adults. P.S. I had many meltdowns - just not in his presence :).
