JoAnne, right now I believe it is too early to really tell. My daughter crushed her hand while on her ship. She had 3 of the bones in her palm broken. She had surgery, and has 11 pins in it. The potential for another surgery is there, to remove one pin that rubs a tendon. The Navy didn't discharge her. She had 18 days of SIQ, then back to work with light duty. After 12 weeks, she is back to full duty. Just no push-ups for 6mo or a year, until the bones mend. The difference being she wasn't in…

You won't know until she heals and the military has the opportunity to evalute her. Some will depend on her and what she wants. Having worked with a lot of hip surgeries, most are better than before. As far as offending anybody, I would never take it that way, nor should anybody else. Your question is perfectly appropriate, so don't let it bother you, don't let your feelings get hurt. This is the place for every mom (and others) to ask questions from others vs. going through the seperation and anxiety from our sons and daughters alone. This is the perfect place to ask. You don't have to do this alone. If it were me, I would want to know how to prepare my daughter for her future.<br />
