Dropped him at hotel on Monday, the 23rd.  Got to go downtown MEPS in Houston with his brother and sister and watch him sworn in.  Grabbed a fast lunch and got to say goodbye before he hopped on bus to airport.  He had already met another recruit and they were keeping each other laughing so that helped quite a bit.  Didn't get the phone call until 2:03 a.m. on the morning of the 25th that he had arrived at RTC.  Was surprised at how late the call was because he had texted me at 9:25 p.m. that the plane had landed.  I guess they were maybe processed first.  Does anyone know if that is how it goes?  I'm doing what all of ya'll are doing.  Crying off and on.  A friend of mine died a few days ago and I had to go to her viewing the same day I saw my son sworn in so it was a rough day.  Started taking down Christmas decorations today.  I had left them up for my son.  I'm an empty nester now and my husband travels extensively so it sure is quiet here.  Thank heaven for pets!  I am so glad for this forum.  No one else understands what it is like.  I'm happy for him and I'm proud but I'm also very, very sad.  His brother says he is okay but his older sister was hit really hard by this.  If you told me two years ago that I would have a kid in the Navy I would have laughed.  There were a lot of 25 year olds at MEPS getting sworn in.  I was surprised by that.  Take care everyone.

Survival Guide for Navy For Moms Newbie.

Hi Becky,

Welcome! My daughter left out of San Antonio on the same day and I got the call at 2:42am on the 25th. I think your son had to wait for her group to come in as there were 11 of them. The plane from SA to O'Hare was cancelled so they had to fly them to Dallas and that flight was delayed by 3 hours so she texted me she she landed at 12:12am. I know how hard it is, we all do. My daughter is 25 and has been living in Austin for the past 6 years (while going to college) and then stayed there after school. We live in SC, so I was not at MEPS to see her get sworn in :(.  Stay on the boards and you will get so much needed and wanted info....Take Care, Micki

Thanks for your reply.  Sorry I'm just responding but I've been super sick.  I've had several letters and a phone call now and I can tell that he is really happy to be there.  He's been sick and they haven't been able to get him well yet but they sent him to the hospital for some x-rays and blood tests so that should help them adjust his meds to help him get well.  I'm really curious to hear from him to see if he's well and how he's handling the current part of boot camp which I understand is super strenuous.  I hope you've  heard from your daughter and all is well.  I'm curious how a 25 year old relates to the boot camp experience compared to a recruit like mine who is only 18.  I guess we'll find out.  Hope you are doing well.  Are you going to PIR?  My sons is 3/16 and the whole family is going.  I've been watching the weather up there, too.  Brrrr.  I'm trying to find out more about the meet and greets so I can figure out which one to go to.  I''m going to ask my son next time he calls if he knows anything or if he has a preference.
