When i was finally able to bring myself to open the box, his contact lenses were in there. Should he have kept them? Can anyone tell me if this was a mistake?

He cannot wear them during boot camp. He will be issued really ugly glasses that are often referred to as BC glasses (birth control) because they are that ugly!

They want all recruits to be on the same playing field with everything they do and wear. The week before graduation, you can mail him a set of contacts - they are allowed to wear contacts or their own eye glasses to the PIR.
If you are going to PIR I would take them with you. That way he could maybe take them with him to his next duty station.
They make them wear the goofy old fashioned looking glasses.
You can send them to him to wear in the photos and for PIR...write him to let you know when you can send them...make sure you send everything he needs to store them...but remember space there is limited.

Also, go to your page and scroll down to read comments on your comment wall. I left you a greeting message that may be helpful.
Thanx for the advice and information. I will definitely send them to him.

You guys made me feel a lot better!!
Just be sure to wait until he has permission to receive them. If they are sent too soon the RDCs may not let him keep them.
