My son is in the DEP and the man that recruited him has a terminal illness (if I'm understanding correctly) so the recruitment office has brought in a new recruiter. When the new recruiter came in they promoted my son to Asst. Recruit Chief Petty Officer (ARCPO). The day they promoted him, this new recruiter called my son while he was in school (school has a rule about not having cell phones turned on) and when my son didn't answer he left a scathing voicemail about "if you're not going to call me back then maybe you dont NEED to be the ARCPO. My son called him back later (after school) and explained why he didn't get back to him immediately and he thought that'd be the last time it happened...wrong. yesterday he got another scathing voicemail from same recruiter. Ive gotten sketchy details but it seems the Captain reamed the new guy out for calling my son at school, and that my son, while in school, is a student first, and Navy personnel second.
You can imagine my frustration with this new person and I'm not sure what I can if things happen in the future. Advice?
1st off, he gets no benefits being a ARCPO in dep. So, tell him not to worry about losing that job, it means nothing.
Next time this happens have him let it default to voice mail, if the recruiter is an @ss on the voice mail, then call him up and tell him "My son was concerned with your voice mail. After listening to your rudeness, I too am offended too. Secondly, I don't appreciate you calling him at school. I would like to know the phone number to your commanding officer". If he doesn't give it to you, then go to this website and find it and call him yourself. You're a mom, you have no connection to the Navy. Your son is coming to you for advise, and you are providing the support. But make dang sure he's rude on the voice mail because you will offer to play it to the CO.
Here is the website where you can find your phone numbers:
Thank you, Craig, I will do that.I was so mad that this guy just got here and started acting like a jackass immediately. do they not realize when kids are in high school, if they have their phones on, they get them taken away for the day and if they do it three times, it's gone til the end of the year? very annoying!
Thank you again for the advice.
