My nephew is a nuke EM2. His A school and power school were in Goose Creek, prototype in New York. He is now on a sub, coincidentally stationed in Groton. He did not attend any training in Groton at all.

Advanced electronics sub school is in Groton, but that is definitely NOT the nuclear program.

And yes, the drop rate is rather high for nukes. Second only to SEALs I've been told.

If your son signed on for Submarine service like my Nuke son did, then there will be a chance that he will go to Groton for ELT school as an MM and he is selected for this additional schooling. The only other way to end up in Groton for schooling would to be a Submariner, but not a Nuke.

Your son may get stationed there once schooling is over and he is assigned to a sub that is homeported there or if he is an East coast based sub that stops there for an emergency port call.

My son was originally on an East Coast boat, dry-docked, and when they went out for sea-trials, they went to Groton. Except for a pleasure trip to the Sub Museum in Groton...this was the only time my Nuke MM was in Groton.

Many drop out of the nuke program along the way. I have seen many get really tied in with a group, only to be "heartbroken" because their son/daughter drops out of the program. I want to stress that the nuke program is not for everyone - it is a hard program and a hard life. Secondly, dropping out of the nuke program should not be considered a failure. If it happens to your son, you must help him deal with it. The Navy needs everyone on the team. Every team member serves a function and is important.
ok so they all go to SC first…tag:navyformoms.ning.com,2012-02-01:1971797:Comment:68283662012-02-01T16:01:30.714Zdekehttps://navyformoms.ning.com/profile/dekecraig

ok so they all go to SC first, then he could be switched? His recruiter just "checked" on it Monday, and came back and said it was Groton. I hope I am ready for the not certain part of the Navy, LOL. I don't even know where to start being prepared for this journey.
