Welcome to our October adoptee announcement... drumroll please...

This month's adoptees are the crew of the mighty USS Shoup!

The crew has been  deployed for approximately 5 months and they are not turning back anytime soon. This is a small ship so they don't have access to many comfort items. They are in need of support from home to boost morale and spirit, we need to send them some love!

The Shoup crew is 300 strong and includes 60 females and 240 males.  They do have access to microwaves.

Let's send the taste and flavors of Fall---  include packaged apple goodies, pumpkin and spice treats, etc.

Their wish list includes:

-hygiene items (soap, shampoo, chap stick, hand sanitizer and deodorant)

-females: feminine products  (PLEASE PUT AN  "F",  for Female, ON THE OUTSIDE OF THE BOX)

Look in your local grocery for Russell Stover packaged caramel apple treats. I found them for $1 ea!
I'm in! I will try to find some Fall flavors to send!

I'm so excited!

I've got the idea that I want to make "pie in a jar" for this month and my goal is to make one for every sailor on board!

100 pumpkin, 100 apple and 100 pecan!

I already have 3 great friends who are on board.

Did I mention I'm REALLY excited about this?! ;)

I'm wondering about the "donation letter", can I get a copy to try to get some help with the supplies??

: )

Chellita, That is a wonderful idea. I thought I saw someone mention not to do the "pie in a jar" with anything containing dairy or eggs?????????? I may be wrong, someone who has done it will know!

For the donation letter, please send an email to dberland@mollysadoptasailor.com. I sent her a heads up to expect the request and she will need your real name! LOL!

We're gonna ROCK this adoption!!!!

I've made cakes and pumpkin pies for my son, so obviously used dairy and eggs.  They survived the trip very well.  He said when he opened the jars they smelled like they were just made.  After he popped the metal lid, he put them in a microwave for about 35-45 seconds - he said the smell was amazing.  It also brought his bunk mates running to see what he was cooking!!  He lied and said his Mom had only sent a couple.  Shame on him.  So when I did b'day cakes for him I made sure to send plenty so he could and would share.  LOL

Told you I could be wrong about the dairy and egg thing!!! Well, that was my first mistake, knew it had to happen sometime!! LMAO!!!
