Anyone here with son/daughter having PIR September 18?
Our oldest son is in A school (CTI but switching to CTR this week) and our second is in boot for Nuke, PIR Sept 18.
I’m concerned that I have yet to hear from him since the original “I’m here” call and the form letter. He is over halfway done and no calls yet.
I’m trying to figure out if he just hasn’t had the opportunity, or if he has chosen not to call. He is our hardest son to get close to and to understand as an extreme introvert, and I’m just hoping that the silence is just because he hasn’t been permitted a call yet. But please let me know if you have had a call!
Also we are really anxious that he buy the photos, because our oldest didn’t and we had to convince them to allow us to order the photos ourselves! So hopefully second son will just buy the photos, especially since now we can’t even see him graduate.
StarryNights - if you look at the messages I posted earlier today in the main BC Mom group page, I gave the link for the information page about the photos. There is another link in there that has the order form with address and # for the Photo NEX. Our pictures were not mailed so I am not sure how long it takes for those to arrive, but that information page should give you a time frame.
As for the phones - when the Nukes were flying out of GL they spent the night on RTC and then were bussed to the airport for Friday or Sat. night. Because they were staying at RTC and had not moved to their A school, they were not allowed to have their phones back, even if they had used them when in the motel with us. NO phones are allowed on RTC. So, even though they may be sailors - they are still being housed on RTC to the best of my knowledge based on something I read earlier today. There can be many reasons that they may or may not have already transported the Nukes that has nothing to do with the virus. And we are not privileged to know that information. Transportation of a group of sailors is just the same as ship movement and this is something to get use to in the fleet. Once you are in contact with your sailor, make sure he understands how important it is to you, for you to know his comings and his goings. He may or may not comply but if you help him understand that only he can give you that information, it will help him understand that he needs to convey it to you.
It is still "No News is Good News" and you are not the first mom to be without communication from your sailor - especially with a Nuke. - Be sure to ask in the Nuke Mom group and see if anyone else has information. - Hard to tell but maybe.
Chipmunk and B'sNukeMoM MMN are the ones that really know the Nuke info. I do know that they won't get their phones back until they are on the way to A school or in your case Nuke school. Hopefully he will get your text as soon as he gets his phone back.
It all depends on the Navy as to when they will be moving the Sailors to their next station. I know it's hard. always remember No news is good news and being flexible while our loved ones are in the Military.
BNH to you.
StarryNights-- They typically did not move until Saturday or Sunday. NOW however they are moving them privately not on public transport so if they have another large group also headed to GC they may wait to ship them all together.
They are Never authorized to have Cell phones onboard RTC. In fact when we had in person Graduation, you couldn't take pictures outside the drill hall on base!! The Navy doesn't care that 99% will behave, it's that 1 that ruined it for everyone. SO that is their policy. They are given their belongings as they board the bus to leave GL. If they were delayed due to the virus they would have called since that would represent a change in Status. and GL doesn't want them any longer than they have to since space is a premium!!!
As for the pictures, they arrive the weekend of PIR typically but due to shipping they can take a little while longer (I have heard of them arriving the following week, rare but it can happen.)
Okay makes sense, thank you!!!!
I’ll have to find out if he had the photos shipped, or maybe he just picked them up himself.
As an update, I was able to find out tonight that he is doing fine and that there is a group that is holding due to certain bases not currently accepting people (something about the virus but not really sure the whole story...also some others are, I think, being held while they clean up from the hurricane in Pensacola).
That is excellent. We are so glad that you heard from him.
Yes, that would make sense since Pensacola got hit pretty hard from Hurricane Sally.
Now you can breathe a sigh of relief that you heard from him and that he is ok. Praise God.
Sorry StarryNights wrong mom for that info. :) I had a senior moment. :)
My son isn’t going to Pensacola but I suppose it’s possible that South Carolina has some sort of coronavirus scare going on. I was told specifically it was something about the virus, but it can’t possibly be on his end because obviously nobody at boot camp has it.
My son is Div 335 btw, but I don’t think his whole division is in holding. Just certain groups.
(My older son is currently at Pensacola though...they are definitely still cleaning up, although school is finally starting back tomorrow.)
StarryNights - I am glad you had an update regarding your sailor.
Like we said, there are many things that can hold up the sailors at GL and issues at their bases are one of them.
