My sailor is to report to Portsmouth, Va. for 6 months of clinicals for her C school. Her 20th birthday is Feb. 29th. We have always done something really special with her since she only has a birthday every four years. I was wondering if there was a mom/grandmom that could assist me in finding just the right cake and finding the right restaurant gift certificates for her to celebrate her birthday. We always took her to Cracker Barrel, but I want someplace special for her 20th. I doubt that she will be able to be here on a Monday, so I am trying to start early enough that I can get the money saved up and everything taken care of. She has a few friends there, but she is very good at figuring out if I am up to something.

Thanks in advance to any assistance that I can get to make her day very special.

You may want to check with John and Yvonne. They are a sweet couple in that area and they can probably help.

You may want to check in Navy wives of Norfolk/Portsmouth VA and Ladies of VA. Those are groups for wives, but they may be able to help although neither one is very active. You can also check Virginia Moms and Virginia Beach, but again they are not very active.

Hello Dutchess.

Let me think on this....what kind of food is her favorite? And what kind of cake does she like? Would she be celebrating with her friends?

On another note, we would love to invite her to come over to our home on the weekends. My husband and I have been inviting sailors, soldiers and marines over for the last 15 years. :) My husband is a retired Navy Chaplain. If you want to know more about us, go to our site on navy4moms.

Looking forward to hearing from you again.

Yvonne and John

Favorite foods... Sushi, homemade chicken and dumplings, chicken, beets, just about any kind of fruit/vegetable, seafood. There are really too many to name. She is usually open to trying anything once.  Her utmost favorite cake is red velvet. She also likes chocolate. We have usually taken her to Cracker Barrel for her birthday, but I would really like for this one to be really special since she will be leaving the "teen" era. I would imagine she would want to invite a few friends. She does know the ones she's coming from Tx with and a few others that are there on permanent party. I just don't know who she would want to include at this time. I really don't want her to know about this and will have to figure how if there is one that I can trust with a secret. Her apartment is in Norfolk. She loves cooking and eating home-cooked meals. I really don't want to put her name and number out on this forum.

I would really appreciate all the help you could give me and we would sent you the money to pay for whatever you could help us arrange.

Perhaps you could find and get in contact with one of her friends and I could talk to them.

Yvonne

I am working on that now. It's just getting to talk to them without her knowing it. May take me a little while but I will get at least one.

sounds good.

:) Yvonne

How do I put them in touch with you?

Maybe you could get their cell number and I will contact them. :)

Just let them know my name and that I will call them and they can let me know who would be able to celebrate her birthday with her.

Yvonne

You need to friend each other.
