Yes, It is very possible to be deployed as a Reservist. It does depend on his rating in the Navy, his unit etc. Sometimes it just happens, and they may also volunteer for them. There are a lot of factors.

Son has not been deployed in his five years. Hubby was deployed twice (29 years). The first time was 18 years into his career, right after 9/11 and then again in 2011. Both times he was activated. He had opportunities to volunteer for other deployments in between those but did…

Active Duty service.

There is something called FTS - Full Time Support in the Reserves. These are the reservists who work full time for the units/commands. They have that because it is just too difficult to get all that done on a weekend once a month and Reserves need to support reserves.

FTS is not available to all ratings. Here is a link to a BUPERS doc: http://www.public.navy.mil/bupers-npc/reference/milpersman/1000/130...

Usually going from Reserves to Active duty is not easy...and not done too much. Your Reserve unit has to release you from their service, there has to be a place for you in an Active duty position and the Active duty has to "need" you. (That would be in the same rating.)You signed on with a commitment to fill a position in a unit...iow, needs of the Navy. While it is all "the Navy" active duty and reserves have different aspects to them.

We were discussing this a while back on the Main Page of this Group. Please go there and read the posts. :-) Here is a link back to Page one: http://navyformoms.com/group/navyreserves

(I mention a Coastie who went from Reserve to Active but Coasties are not DoD, they are Homeland Security.)

What I mean is that he signed a 6 year contract as a reservists and wants to go Active in the Navy. I understand this can be difficult. He did say that he could be deployed. Really don't understand. Is it possible to be deployed as a reservists??

Annual Training (AT) differs from unit to unit.

My son has been in for almost five years and AT has happened at different times each year.

None of them during Christmas.

Hubby was AF reserves and he never had yearly Drill at Christmas time that I can remember.

Sooo, I am going to guess that it would be most unlikely.

That;s just my own personal experience but I am going to assume that the Command Staff would rather be home with their families than…

When you say "active duty" do you mean deployment?
