There's always truckstops, but those can be sketchy, noisy, and you won't have hookups or be able to use your slideouts. But you can park there in an emergency.
I'd suggest calling the smaller local RV dealers near Waukegan, they might know of places which are not online.
Yes most of the RV parks up there in Chicagoland won't be open until the spring thaw. There are also no truck stops in the area of RTC. You might have to stay in a hotel and if you find one of the bigger places, they should let you park your RV out in back of their parking lot. We stayed at LaQuinta once on Grand Ave right off 94. We parked our RV in back and even walked over to the Cracker Barrel for breakfast. There are some other large hotels off 43 south of Belvidere (120). There is a large WalMart shopping center right nearby but not all Walmarts allow RV parking anymore. Another great idea is the place where Sarge holds his meet and greets. I know he used to use a large conference center across from the WalMart and he might be able to get you permission to park there. You'd still have to stay in a hotel unless you can boondock for a weekend.
Hubby and I are full time RVrs now and travel the country during the spring, summer. and fall. We did live in Waukegan for quite awhile before our travels so I'm also pretty familiar with the area. There really aren't any RV parks closeby Waukegan. Hope this helps!!!!!
Thank you, that helps quite a bit. We boondock a lot, so that's easy - being able to disconnect is another thing. I will start calling some hotels now...
So just curious, what kind of RV do you have? We have a 40 foot 5th wheel and have lived in it full time for the past 4 years. This year we are having to change our travel plans and park in Oklahoma for a year to help our daughter!!! Looking forward to getting back on the road next year!!!!!
