Thank you so much, Viola. I am better today. Not wanting to cry as much as yesterday. I think it is because I had a dream about my Dad and then I couldn't get the two of them off my mind. My dad was in the Navy too and would be so proud of my son. Unfortunately, my son didn't make the decision for the Navy until after he passed away.  He knew he was wanting to join the military just wasn't sure if he was going to do Air Force or Navy. I know he would be so happy and proud for my son.:) Thank you so much for being here. I am SO thankful for this site! I think I would probably be a lot worse if I didn't have this support to come to!

I just printed several envelopes for my son instead of doing the labels and like that so much better. I used labels for the first set of envelopes I sent him and saw someone mention they printed them out on the envelopes and wondered why I didn't think of that!? lol I print it on the smaller envelopes and place them in the #10 envelopes to mail them so I don't have to fold the #10 envelopes and make it too bulky.

Your not being silly at all! I understand your confusion and frustration. My son's recruiter was not a good one at giving us information.  I was completely in the dark about everything all the time! It drove me crazy! I ended up finding a website just before he left and it had a list of things he should take and that is the only way I knew to send a calling card and stamps.  I sent him two books of stamps. I am totally doing all of this to make it easier on him, hoping it will encourage him to write! lol He has always had poor handwriting (hes a lefty) and so when I saw how neat he had to make his envelope I knew it took him a while to write it all out with such a long address. I figured it would save him time as well and give him more time to write:) I know I will be competing for his time with his love because I am sure he is missing her like crazy so I am trying all I can to make it as easy as possible:) I go the idea off this site, some of the moms had suggested doing labels and I decided that was a good idea.  The important thing is what you are doing, the encouragement and letters from your are what he needs the most, so you are doing what you need. The extras are just that, extras:) hang in there, we are almost thru January! ;)

I support my son and his girlfriend. They are both young, he is 20, her 16. Time will only tell what happens, but he needs her in his life right now and I accept that. I have a great relationship with her and we are going through this together, her and I.  Who knows what the future may hold but I will not interfere with young love, they both know that the cards are stacked against them, as I have been COMPLETELY honest with both of them. But it what they have is true love, who am I to discourage it.

johanna--I encourage you guys to really work hard at getting to know her and going thru this together.  I understand your feelings but it will make things so much easier and your relationship with your son so much better if yall got along.  That way, when he calls he can try and talk to you both. It will be very hard for him if he has a struggle with that. I know it is hard and you want to make their decisions for them, believe me we went thru this with our son. We even in the beginning tried to discourage him being with the young lady his is with now.  We fought it hard but he fought and has been with her a year and half and because we choose to let him make his own decisions, we were able to accept her and have grown to love her dearly. Like you said, only time will tell if they are meant to be together. If it's not meant to be the time apart will make the difference I am sure. I do hope it gets better for yall.  God bless you and your son as he serves.'

Oh, about the calling card, I recommend sending him one as soon as you can. I got mine at walmart but I heard the one from Sams is better if you have a sams card. Either way, it will be better for him to have one.

yes, he has a special young lady in his life and we too are going thru this together.  She is 17 he is 18. I get along wonderfully with her and her family. I am so greatful for that because it makes things so much easier for us to be able to make it thru all of this. She came and had supper with us and spent the evening with us tonight.  She is a very sweet young lady and love her to pieces!:) She will be going with us to PIR. We are so looking forward to seeing him!:)

I am going to go NUTS!!!!! The cost of just TWO people to fly into Midway on Southwest is OVER $1,300!! That isn't counting the hotel or food or vehicle that I am going to need to go to and from the graduation!!!! I may have to drive!! But that is 16 hours and I guess if that is what I have to do, then I will!!! I will walk, crawl and swim to get to be there with my son! I am his mom and I HAVE to be there!

You can get tickets for 217 per person on southwest airlines

Leave out at 6:05 am  Thursday March 1 from DAL love field flight #436

Leave from Midway in chicago at 5:05pm on Saturday March 3 flight number 1078

Go to Hotwire you can get  a car for 3 days for around $200.00

I'm putting the link for the tickets but not sure it will work just look for those flights on those days but you have to do it soon they are increasing.

Hi Rashell! I was just reading your comment and saw that you were having some issues with scheduling your flight. I don't know if you booked yet, but if you did you can watch the prices and if they do go down after booking them you can change your flight to the new one without a changing fee and the extra difference will be used toward a future flight..that is only for southwest however. Hope you can find a nicely priced flight so you wont have to drive 16 hours!! :)

I just checked southwest and as leslie said flights per person round trip are like 200 if leaving on saturday!! hope the search is going well for you!! we all want to see you there rested and relaxed!! :)

Hi Ladies, sorry I havent' responded to anything for awhile, I turned off all the emails (but just turned this group back on) as my in box was overloaded.  We are getting ready to move so life is alittle crazy right now.  I've not received a letter since the form letter but am mailing him one daily.  Hope that keeps his spirits up.  Praying for him everytime I think of him - day and night.  Finding it easier to go about my daily chores and not constantly wonder what he is doing and if he is doing okay.  Proud of our son's for what they are accomplishing!!!

I've booked our hotel and car rental but I'm watching the flights and will book closer to time to go.  Lucky to fly out of Houston I guess because the prices aren't that bad....yet :)  We will fly in Thursday night and leave Saturday....got a 3 year old we need to get back home to.

Glad we don't have to deal with the girlfriend situation yet.......just have to deal with the ex.....I would choose the girlfriend.....lol

Hope you all are doing well and praying we get letters soon.......no news is good news right now......

I'm here :)
