We just got the news; our recruit is from Atlanta/Douglasville area. He too is assigned to this group. Can't wait to meet some of you at GL PIR 10/21. Also would love to keep in touch concerning news of interest concerning time at GL that your recruit may share with you. Look out mailman, better eat a big lunch cause you're going to need lots of energy to carry all the mail you are about to haul. Everyone have a great day!
I struggled a bit with my reply letter. I got nervous thinking if I was too sentimental or not enough! I wrote 4 letters before I finally got it right. Silly huh? I want to write something every day but my husband says that's too much and migrating make bootcamp life hard on our son. I see his point but I wonder if it would do the opposite and keep his morale up. I figure I will try a happy medium and write a couple times a week.
I write the number of letters/cards I wish to write. Some days maybe it is just a picture with 3 or 4 sentences. Other days I write a letter or send a card or questionnaire. We got a very brief call from Jon today; he was in great spirits and said things were going very well; funny, then the form letter came in the late afternoon mail. Being much older than most of the recruits's moms I was married to my high school, college sweetheart when he went into the military. The 13 months that he was in Vietnam I wrote him every day (with the exception of 2, sick with flu and couldn't lift my head off the pillow). He never once complained about too much mail. Heart broke when he passed away in 1996 but am now so blessed and happy to have found Jon's dad and have all of them as part of my family.  Please keep in touch. Have a great weekend. - Judy, in Atlanta
hey there.  We are in Wisconsin so lucky we are close.  Takes about 5 hours to drive to Great Lakes.  We went down there over the July 4th weekend and checked out the base and the area.  It was pretty cool.  Can't wait to stay in touch & meet you all :)  We should plan a Meet & Greet the night before or is there one planned already?
Not sure who sponsors those meet/greet hospitality sessions. Guess could call the Ramada and asked but am sure that some veteran mom on here could answer that question; just need to find the correct person to whom the question needs to be addresses. Goodness, if no one is designated to head that up guess we could all do a BYOwhatever and have our own get-together. Since that event seems to always be held at the Ramada I have a feeling it is a standing reservation but I could be wrong. Our next decisions have to be drive/fly? Stay where? Can Bill and I take our time and make a vacation trip out of this or do we zip up and back is sister and girlfriend are with us since they are both college students and really need to be in class. Thanks again for your note. - Judy, Atlanta

That would be me and I did get my letter yesterday.

Hello moms/girlfriends/wives... My husband is in Div 349. Got the form letter a few days ago.
Our story:

I just finished Gunner's Mate A School in Great Lakes (graduated on Thursday!) and my hubby just left for boot around the same time your boys did... He is going to be a Reservist, his rate is BU (Builder... Hooyah Seabees!)

Missing him a lot. It was hard to kiss him goodbye, but I know exactly what he is going through in boot camp and I prepared him very well, so that is kind of reassuring.
I am hoping to make it back to Great Lakes for his graduation, but my next duty station is San Diego, and I am not sure they will give me leave to attend PIR- fingers crossed!

Thank you all for supporting your loved ones, it means the world to us Sailors <3

Hey fellow Division 349er's.  Did you know that the Recruit Training Command Facebook Page has a Photo Contest every Monday and a Trivia Contest every Tuesday.  Whoever wins gets to see a picture of their entire division.  Wow-  so anyone that can play, please try -  I know i will!!  Oh how i would love to see a picture of my son and his current, new military family.  Go to the facebook page, like it and then go to the NOTES tab and you will find the info there.  Good Luck to us and maybe we will get to see a pic of our loved ones :)

pensgal - that is awesome.  we will try :)
Hello fellow 349'ers:  anyone from CALI that has a SR with last name starting with a B?  If so, message me.  My son has a buddy at BC! :) and i know we can't list last names on the site, so make sure you privately message me.
i played the Trivia contest today, but i was too slow.  darn we could have seen a picture of DIV 349!  darn darn darn.  Maybe next time :)
Where or when is the Trivia Contest??  You would have seen a current picture of Div 349???  My interest in certainly piqued!
