Anyone else out there with an SR in the same SHIP and DIV?  I would love to hear from you.

Hi Shelia, Wow you got a letter!  That is awesome! Was it a note in the form letter or did he actually get to write a letter?  I'm so excited to get one from my SR.  I have sent him a four page letter which the Post Office said would arrive by tuesday. Since we are way out here in OR, I don't expect one for awhile. I'm anxious to find out if they pulled his wisdom teeth.  He has needed them pulled for awhile now.
Just the form letter, so far!  Those four lines were a welcome sight , though!  It was just so nice to hear him sound positive - a great attitude! My son needs glasses, because he lost his before he left, so I would think he's gotten some spiffy new ones now!   I've mailed letters to him for the past 5 days - i hope he writes back.  I enclosed some stamps in the last one.  I sent him out there with some plain notecards, and they didn't come back in the box, so I hope that means he still has them!  I am now an administrator of the PIR 10-21-11 site, so let me know if you need anything or have any ideas, ok?
I think they got to write for the first time this last sunday. Hopefully we will be the first on their list.  I'm competing with a girlfriend so I'm not sure I will be the first letter to go out.  Lol.  I can always ask her how he is doing.  One of those things you just have to accept, eventually you might not be first on his mind.  As long as he knows he is first on mine.  I read they have access to Navy stationary so I didn't send any paper or envelopes but if I get on top of it I will send address labels to make it so he has more time to write.  I'm sure they set your son up with new glasses the very first couple of days.  :)
hello all..god bless all sr ..hope everyone is doing ok...im still alil nervous not knowing anything ,yes i got his form letter n a lil comment he wont ,,he sounds like hes doing really good,,im happy he is..i feel alil better...but still..im sure we want to know more ..but i pray everyday for all of them n i hope his div is doing good also..i cant wait to pir..i was cking out hotels n airport..im just waiting for the real letter n the phone call,,hopefully will be next wk the call,,,thanks all n god bless GOOO RAY!
Hi nyyoli,  Welcome to the chat group.  You might hear something this week.  I heard that this last sunday they got to write letters.  If that is true hopefully we will all receive one by this weekend.  Mine might take a little longer since OR is a bit further away than most of the other families.  I'm not sure where you are thinking of flying in from but you should check out the cost difference between Ohare and Milwaukie.  I have heard it is much cheaper from Milwaukie and you don't have the nasty traffic.  I guess they are about the same distance from the base, or so I've been told.  Let us know if you find any good rates.  We are hoping to go but it is not set in stone yet.
Keep in mind when you choose an airport for yourself, if the Sailors fly to A school on a grad and go plan, they will fly out of OHare.  You can spend time with them at the airport and even hand off cell phones, computers, etc.
Good information.  Hopefully they don't have a grad and go.  When do we find out if that might happen?  Hopefully we get that weekend to spend with our sailors before they head off.
mamaof5 - where they go for A school depends on their rating (their 'job').  It should be written in the enlistment papers, what his rating is and where the school is.  My son will be staying at GL for A school, and then I think he might have another school, for additional training.  I'm not sure if that's before or after he would be deployed to his ship.  His recruiter should be able to tell you, also, if he's a 'grad & go' or not.
I know he heads down to SC but don't know if it will be a grad & go.  I guess I will have to ask his recruiter before I purchase any tickets.  Thanks.  That is nice for you that your son stays in the area, that way you can spend some quality time with him.  :)

Hello,

Here is a link to the post I have done in the Pages section of this PIR group (Pages is in the middle column next to the weather. To see all the pages click "View All" at the bottom right corner of it).

http://www.navyformoms.com/group/pir-10-21-2011/page/after-pir-libe...

It explains Fraiday and Saturday Departures. The term Grad and Go is supposed to be obsolete. RTC put out a post saying that they don't use it any longer. (However it is STILL on the RTC website under Graduations. I have contacted RTC PAO and they are in the process of correcting that.) The Family Guide (click to take you there) however states Friday and Saturday Departures...so that's what I am going to call them!

Hope it helps!

Does anyone know if my SR goes to A school in CT he will be a grad and go or have the weekend before he leaves?  When do you find that out?

SheliaD answered the same type of question for me.  She wrote on this chat group 9 hours ago.  Scroll up and you will see her reply.  Hope this helps.
