Welcome to the Division Discussion for Divisions 171 and 172
These two divisions are brother divisions and will be training together from the beginning through BS21 their final test. Your SRs, soon to be SAILORS, are becoming friends, and some of them may be heading to A School together.
Get to know each other, your SRs are!
Please still use the Main Wall of the PIR Group to post questions, and concerns, we “veteran” moms don’t always get to into the discussion area as often as we would like.
Every single question that is asked is important Every single concern is genuine Every single member is important to us We don't want to accidentally overlook any of them or you.
Hang in there!!!

My daughter had tears of joy also Glosmom. I was so surprised to get the call on Saturday since I was hoping for one on Sunday. When I saw the area code 847 , my heart leaped with joy! I am so happy for your daughter that another SR helped her out. Such kindness. I just mailed my daughter a phone card in my letter since she said she did not want to use all her minutes up too quickly. I hope to get a letter soon . Have a great week to all the Moms out there!
Glosmom, I started to flip out too! I had read somewhere that they allow the recruits to call home if they fail a test or get injured, so when I received my call on Saturday and my daughter was crying I assumed the worse also! She assured me it was just because she missed me! Her call actually woke me up and it took me a minute to realize I wasn't actually dreaming. She said it's not easy but I could also hear confidence and excitement in her voice. She said their first big tests are this week, so I'm saying an extra prayer. It would be SUCH a confidence booster to do well on their first tests. She also said she was mailing out letters on Sunday. Hopefully I will get them tomorrow.
Hello all! I received the Saturday call. He is really missing home and at that point it became difficult for me. When I heard him and his voice, the sacrifice that he is making hit. I can't wait for PIR.I would love to hear and share encouragement here.
Momteyro,
Welcome to the group!
I think we are all on the crazy roller coaster ride together. Sometime I feel like a crazy person totally up and then down. I'll wake up and think this is going to be a good day, I can totally get through this, and I am so lucky to even have a daughter I have a friend who just lost her 18 year old son in a hiking accident and I have to keep reminding myself, that's final, that is true devastation. The Navy, that is just where my girl is right now. That is where her vivacious and adventurous soul has taken her in life.
But then an hour, or even a minute later I will find some of her laundry or hear some music or think of some silly thing I wanted to tell her; then I will loose it all over again. But then I think, I am just being unreasonable being so upset (my husband really just does not get it), this is a good thing, this is what we have been preparing our children for-to grow up and make their own way in the world ( not necessarily joining the Navy as that came as a complete SHOCK to me) whatever that may be.
So we WILL get through this and so will our kids and we will be so proud of them!
thanks for the welcome! It is different than losing a child and I can not even begin to imagine that pain. When My son 1st left. We went and stayed at a hotel so we could take him out to dinner and see him the next day before he got on the plane. We said our goodbyes and all was fine. That was Thursday. We also met another boy at MEPS and took him out because his parents weren't able to be there because of distance. All was fine, no phone call or anything, but I really didn't know what to expect so that was fine. Along comes Saturday and I'm working in the laundry room and turn around and there is B. (I'll call him that) He scared me half to death sneaking up on me. Apparently the plane malfunctioned and the navy pulled him off after 3 hours of waiting. Well, we spent the rest of that day and the next morning with him just hanging around and watching movies. His recruiter picked him up around noon and we said goodbye once more. I think that's what made it even harder. Then the phone call last Saturday...ugh.
You are right. We WILL get through and so will they. It's all part of growing up...maybe one day, I'll be full grown! ;-)
My family and I are making a vacation out of it and leaving a week early. We are driving and stopping at a resort for a few days.
Thanks. Me too. What a new and exciting adventure we are on! As far as the driving, We are diving about 400 miles the first day to my Mothers place to pick her up. Then the next day 570 miles to Kalahari resort for 3 days, then its another 350 to great lakes. The 570 will be the worst day, since my husband is meeting us there and I will be driving all of it, but with frequent coffee and pee breaks it'll be worth it! ;-)
