Hello. I'm the mom of an SR in this division. Anyone on here have children in the same division? This is my second experience with the military. My son is a Marine. My mom and I are planning our trip to Great Lakes and are just looking around on this site for helpful information and tips. So far, we've found a ton of info! You all are the best! Anyway......thanks.
Good Morning! Got a letter from my son yesterday. Hadn't heard from him since letter written Aug 5th. He is doing really good but has been super busy. He said his Div has earned 2 flags so far. The Athletic flag & a Star flag because they did good on their inspections. He is hoping they get 2 more on Monday Aug 27th. The Military & Scholastic flags. And the div is also waiting to find out if they did good enough at the shooting range to earn a flag. He says the div is working alright as a team but not the best. In his words "Nobody can stay shut up for some reason". But other than that he says he cannot believe he is almost done boot camp. It has gone by very fast. He also got E-2 & thinks he earned the marksmanship ribbon. Also got a perfect score on all his inspections. No hits. I am so relieved.
It actually took him several entries & about 3 weeks to get all this info to me. He said he didn't have a whole lot of writing time & would just write a little then go to bed. I was quite impressed he gave me so much info. I was relying on other Moms comments to figure out how things were going for quite some time. It was so nice to hear details from him. I feel like I can finally take a breath now.
My daughter in law reads me the letters she gets from my son. Mat is still doing very well. He just finished firearms training and took his pictures. He has a week of firefighting and then a week of battle stations coming up. He loves the food there. He also received (along with the other recruits) a medal and a ribbon for volunteering during war time.
I love N4Ms.
I have learned so much here about what my SN is going through. One of the things I learned is that my son is a SN not an SR because he went in as E3. Here is a link to show all the different rates, so that if your s/he has a stripe on their sleeve at PIR you will know what it means. They will be so proud and should be.
11 DAYS TO GO!!!!!!!!
That's interesting. My son also went in as an E3, so I guess he's also an SN.. I did read early on though that even though they're technically Seamen, during bootcamp, they're still referred to as SRs though. But I don't remember where I read that.
The thing with him going in as a SN vice a SR (1) he's getting paid more, (2) he'll be eligible to take the advancement exam a lot sooner. That's good he went in as a SN. Congrats to both of you!!!
I am so upset that I was so late in joining this group. My son is in SHIP 12 DIV 295... looking for any information on BD dates.. I will take all the information you have about anything ! We have received letters but no call except the first one... thanks for listening.. I realize t-shirt orders or flags is probably to late...
