Hi all!  This is a discussion I've started for the families with recruits in Ship 2, Div 952.  Of course anyone can join, but this will help those of us in this specific group get to know each other.

OH MY GOSH! I just typed a big long explanation on my cell phone and lost it! Brandon was accepted by colleges and was going to get into medicine. Next thing I knew he was in the car with the recruiter signing up. It might be awkward with the girlfriend for 4 days. I don't even really know her. She didn't go to see him off, so not sure if she is going or not.
I am trying to keep in touch with Trav's girlfriend for the awkward reason too! We thought Trav was going to Iowa State- then he said on Easter Sunday that he wanted to join the Navy. My husband is a retired Master Chief, so he was thrilled. I was glad too, I just know there isnt' a lot of Navy in Iowa (try none) so I was sad about that. I know Trav will do great in the Navy, he was raised around sailors most of his life. His recruiter is a Corpsman and he told Travis that they use each other to practice shots and iv's. Holy night. What do you do in Indiana? My sister lives in Fort Wayne and my brother lives in Shipsewana. They both love it.
I don't have her phone # or local address where his gf lives. They had just gotten back together.....shortly after he joined the Navy. Ewww...I couldn't handle the needles and practicing on each other. I HATE needles. Brandon gives blood on a regular basis and has no problem with it. I have managed a credit union in Fort Wayne for 23+ years (we are merging with another credit union so I also hav the job change stress on top of the empty nest). We live north of Fort Wayne and we get some wicked ice and a lot of lake affect snow.
Travis gave blood alot too- maybe that's where the needle deal comes in! I could not let someone take blood or put in an IV as training! HA
I did his clothes yesterday too.. the pups were devestated.
11/12/10 CAN'T COME FAST ENOUGH! We made our flight reservations last night. It saved us $120 per person to fly into Midway instead of Ohare. Now, we just need a hotel and car and we'll be all set. Has anyone rented a car yet? I've heard Enterprise has been the cheapest? Anyone else find something else?
I booked my car thorugh Budget on Expedia and it was the cheapest. And I'm with you with Midway I saved a bunch that way too. If you haven't booked your hotel, look a the Residence Inn. They have a special going on for $63 a night, and a shuttle to PIR
I love, love, love the day ticker Diana- thanks so much! I have it on my calendar at school. In my classroom, we're not counting down to 100 days, we're counting to PIR. Which any of the 4th graders can tell you all about! HA.
Very cool!!!! I'm glad you like it, and it's educational...who knew?
Lovemyhorses! We love Fort Wayne! My sis lives just north too- she's a nurse big wig at Parkview Hospital. The science museum there rocks!! Sorry about the job change- that is stressful!
I'm home and I am homesick. :( I sure do miss Brandon, worry about him, hope he is adjusting, hope getting to know people makes it easier and I check everyday for a letter.

I think it was on the bootcamp moms that I saw they could only receive mail and write mail on Sunday.

Tomorrow is the last day of my job after 23 1/2 years, so that is adding TONS of stress. We are merging, so will have a job but have to learn it all new. My mind just really isn't really into that right now.

sigh...........
Hey lady! Smile! We are one day closer to seeing our recruits and knowing they've made some awesome changes in their lives.

Let me check on the mail thing for you, I was under the impression that mail was received by our recruits Mon-Sat but the only day they could WRITE home was Sunday.

I'm so sorry to hear about your job, sounds like you and your recruit are both going through major changes. But you are both strong individuals and will go through it with grace and the support of your new friends here on N4M. We're here for you!
