I like the count Fridays advice! My son left this Thursday, May 9. So Friday was his Day #1. My first Friday without him, and 8 more to go until we see him graduate. Hopefully. Assuming no delays. This is hard. Glad there are others who are with us, and been there before. Great words from a man at MEPs, "Thousands of other young men have done this before, it's tough, it's life changing, it's a military rite of passage, and he can do this." Yes, he can.

I received my personal letter yesterday. It was such a relief. Everything I have seen and read about bootcamp has made it sound like pure torture. Thankfully, my son is taking it well, and told me it was easier than he thought it would be. He said the worst is standing watch. He is the MA of his division and passed his first PFA easily. I hope you all get the same relief I did when reading the personal letter. Now for an actual phone conversation. That will be even better!

SuzyPWarrior, there is one that may or may not be very active. Use group search function(its spelled with no space network the words) but as someone who's sailor has been in for over 4 years, I can say for me it took a long time to adjust. On the plus side, my grocery bill went way down, lol

SuzyPWarrior - my son was also anxious to leave the nest. He’s also 18yrs old and I didn’t realize I wasn’t ready for it until he left to bc about 3 wks ago but it’s just a normal part of growing up and it’s healthy. It’s just hard on us moms. We gave our son the best of ourselves and it’s their time to explore the world. Try to focus on what an awesome kid you have and remind yourself that this is an experience of a lifetime. We gave our son the best of ourselves and it’s their time to explore the world. Try to focus on what an awesome kid you have and remind yourself that this is an experience of a lifetime. He needs this and it’s time. Let’s give them the opportunity to spread their wings and fly, and in the meantime we follow them with our prayers. My emotions have been a roller coaster ride and my thoughts have traveled to that depressing place of what if. But I encourage each mom to remind yourselves that this is an adventure of a lifetime that will do them more good than harm. When we love deeply, as a mom, it’s a painful transition but if it’s something good for them then we’re willing to undergo the painful separation to see them floriish.

Ladies, it’s just part of the process and I do believe it gets better from here. Hold on a bit tight and let’s be patient especially with the admin moms and sarge (meet & greet sign up) because they’re really here to help and they’re doing the best they can. They don’t have to do it but they do. Be blessed everyone!
My son left April 9.
AbbyGail - you are correct - the official letter should arrive about 9-14 days after arrival. Keep writing your letters in the meantime - just # them in the bottom corner so your SR knows what order to open them in. As soon as you get the address you can mail them all at once!

Count Fridays rather than individual days - it helps the time go by faster. Hang in there!

No, I haven't gotten my form letter as of yet either. I thought I read somewhere that it will arrive in 2 or 3 weeks after getting "the box." But, ladies please let me know if that's correct. I've already written him a letter but I'm saving it until I get the form letter with the address. I can't wait to hear how it's going! I try not to think too much about him being away and life changing because it gets me depressed. I simply look forward to seeing him and hearing from him soon. It may…

I try not to think too much about him being away and life changing because it gets me depressed. I simply look forward to seeing him and hearing from him soon. It may sound silly but watching clips of funny movies helps me a bit. I enjoy watching Madea. It's my way of coping and having this group is so helpful. We'll get through this don't worry. As many of the moms have said: it doesn't get easier, we just get stronger :-)

I'm also glad to be part of this group. I just finished going through my son's box. A part of me just wanted to fall apart and I wished that my son was also sent with the package. Missing him a whole bunch and worrying (as mother's do) if he's okay, if he has second thoughts, or if he's really giving his all. I'm trying to hold it together and praying that the days would just fly by. I guess I'm happy and scared at the same time but praying each day that he is well. I didn't get any letter…

I didn't get any letter just his clothes and some items he took with him.
