Angela - you sound like a very supportive and loving mom - your son is lucky to have you in his corner. I'm sure he'll go on to do great things. Give him a hug from us Navy moms and please update us as to how things turn out.

(Also, please don't delete yourself as a member because if you do all your comments will be deleted too.)

Thank you. He is such a gentle soul, I was worried that the military wouldn’t be a good fit for him. But he tried and I am very proud of him. I am glad he is coming home!!

Well unfortunately I don't believe this is something he can get a waiver for and re-enlist. But I'm not 100% sure - they will let him know before they send him home. Like you said the good thing is that it was discovered early on and now he can get home and get back to feeling better. Remind him that it's ok - there's nothing "wrong" with him - military life isn't for everyone and there is something else out there for him. Please thank him for wanting to serve - there's not many that…

Just was able to talk to him and he said he was really struggling with depression while he was there. They sent him to the hospital and he was able to talk to a psychiatrist who diagnosed him with adjustment disorder. I guess that’s an automatic separation. Poor guy, he said it’s going to be a relief to come home. He passed all his fitness tests though. Glad he was able to figure this out before he got much further into boot camp and then sub school.

Ah I'm sorry you didn't get to actually speak with him :( It's frustrating I'm sure but now try to focus on the positive and encouraging him to try again if that's what he wants. It's ok to be sad for him on here - we're here for you - just continue to encourage him and let him know it's ok - he's not a failure and hopefully this is just a minor setback. Many have been separated and returned after 6 months and made it through. And if he chooses not to go back that's ok…

I was driving when he called so it went straight to voicemail and he just left a message. He was super fit before he left but maybe the stress of it all got to him? Hopefully he can call again soon.
Thanks for your response! I am so sad for him.

I'm sorry to hear this Angela - did he say if he was being medically discharged or maybe something else? There could have been something that came up in the "moment of truth" or perhaps he didn't pass his PFA. Hopefully he'll be able to call again soon and give you more info. Either way hopefully it is something he can get a waiver for and try again in 6 months. You can also ask him to list you as a person to talk to with legal - otherwise they won't be able to give you any…

I hope you find out something soon. And please keep in mind that in can take a little time before he gets home - it just depends on how many are in SEPS.

Stay positive and supportive so you can help him through this. The link to the FB group is also listed on the main page - join that and you should be able to get more info......hugs to you.
