down to counting days until my son leaves for BC vs. the months & weeks!  Keeping very busy preparing his favorite foods & desserts, planning the party before he ships out.   Just waiting for it to all hit!  Happy, excited, proud!!   My son will be in the Nuke program.  Any other moms with kids leaving that week?

My son is at BC now. THinking about you all and praying for you as you say goodbye to your sons/daughters/husbands/wives.  Have you seen this video:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BDGFjeawDnQ

I found it after my son left and from what he wrote in his letters, this sounded exactly like his experience.  It might help a little when they are gone to be able to "see" what they are doing.

Thanks MomTo6 I love watching the youtube videos, it sure makes it easier knowing what our recruits are doing when they get to BC.  Good luck to your son!

My son just got back from recruiters office & the councilor there told him they are now letting you keep your cell phone but not sure if it can be used.  I spent the past few days trying to find long distance phone cards & finally found some today, curious if anyone else has heard about this & cell phones?

Beachmom, I don't know why anyone would say that recruits can keep their cell phones because it is NOT true. The rumor has been going around for several years ever since the Army allowed their recruits to keep their cell phones. Your recruit will use the cell phone to make the "I'm here!" call upon arrival and it WILL be put in "The Box" and sent home. Make sure that you and your recruit are prepared for that because that is what WILL happen.

See Things to Do in the Last Month before Your Future Sailor Leaves for... and Arrival and What Happens at the RTC.

The Army and Air Force do permit recruits to keep their cell phones, but the Navy does NOT.

Thanks for the confirmation lemonelephant the cell phone coming home in the box is what we both expected. He's got calling cards and ready to go!

You are very welcome.

I thought I was ready.  My son leaves tomorrow and Im suddenly a mess again.

Neveremptynest I go in waves.  I just dropped my SR off at the recruiters office.  Will still see him for dinner tonight at the hotel & be at MEPS in the morning to watch him swear in but when he said good bye to the dog I lost it.  I can't wait until PIR when we have to say hello & good bye all over again.  I hate good byes :(  Good luck to you & yours!

You too Beachmom!!  I just got a text from my son.  There are a group of them getting ready to leave MEPS and head to GL.  I burned my first blue candle last night.  Going to be going through a few of them I believe!

Thanks Neveremptynest mine is in the air.  There were about 8-9 Navy at the swearing in this morning so they'll travel together and most likely be in the same division.  Makes it easier on the parents knowing he's not alone!  Looking forward to the call tonight and then can't wait for the letter confirming PIR.  Wow what an emotional ride this has been and will continue to be!

My husband is leaving on 11/4 also. Can't believe its tomorrow! Both happy & sad!

Shelley good luck to you & your husband!

Oh my gosh I can't believe the day is finally here.  Heading to MEPS in a while to see my boy one last time before our lives change forever.  I'm so full of emotion and sure hope I can hold it together this morning.  Only 50 something days until PIR!!
