As of August 29 it will be 2yrs he has been gone. He's a nuke so he just finished school. I have to be honest it hasn't gotten easier. I was young when I had him and raised him alone. I didn't get a lot of letters but I wrote a minimum of 1 letter a day. Letters of love and encouragement and he said that's what got him through. I'm now having to face that he's going to be in Guam and on an attack sub and deployed most of the year. He has top secret security so I really can't know anything. I'm…

I'm not trying to make this about me but whether it's bootcamp or deployment it's hard. To me raising him was the easy part letting go was the hardest thing I've ever done. So keep writing him. Good luck and stay strong. Thank youtag:navyformoms.ning.com,2019-07-30:1971797:Comment:106146132019-07-30T03:27:32.195ZHoneyLemonTeahttps://navyformoms.ning.com/profile/HoneyLemonTea

My daughter shipped 7/17, just missed the bad weather. Today is the first day i have not been busy with work and have started a questionnaire to send to her just to be doing something. i am at over 40 questions i will probably split up and send in different letters. lucky for me work picks back up tomorrow to keep me busy for another week. But soon this project will be done and then i will need to find something else to keep my mine off of missing her. Good luck to your Sailor Recruit.

Just like you, my son was scheduled to ship out on Thursday 07/18 but his flight was canceled. He arrived in Chicago the following day—the 19th—but didn’t get picked up until after midnight. I didn’t get the call from him until 1:35 a.m., eastern time. Perhaps our sons are in the same division.

I thought that after a week I’d worry less, but nope...I still get anxious thinking about him and what he’s going through. I just received ‘the box’ and it was like pulling the scab off a…

Thanks for your response, glad to hear your son is doing well. I can't wait to know my son's graduation date, planning your trip to graduation is an awesome way to pass time. Good News: my son called this afternoon. He just completed his baseline, which was difficult and needed references for his job ( Information Systems Technician). Was good to hear his voice and he sounded happy, did my heart good!

My son left for bootcamp July 2nd. I feel your pain!! I send a card or letter twice a week so that he will get something from home. He has written and I have sent extra stamps, envelopes and paper so that he can use them to write or to share with his new friends. As mom's, we worry, but know that they are taken care of and they are eating much better (as my son said!) I was told to look forward to each Friday and keep busy, time will go by fast. I have already booked my flight for graduation (30th Aug) so looking for things to do in that area may help you stay focused as well. Good luck to you and to your sailor!!

I received "The Box" yesterday, it was good to smell his scent and to see what items they made him return. I have watched the you tube videos, Making a Sailor and I agree they helped me a great deal. I'm trying to keep busy, but every time my phone ring and I don't recognize the number, I get frazzled. I'm staying positive - looking forward to graduation.

Be sure to join the boot camp group - I left the link in the welcome message on your page. You'll find lots of good info there. Once you get the official letter (9-14 days after arrival) you can then start writing and you'll be able to join the PIR group for your son. Stay busy - count Friday's rather than individual days. Come here for support - we'll get you through this. Remember, no news is good news!
