Calling All CT, MA and RI Moms

You Asked For It…  We Are Delivering!!

Announcing:  the FIRST Southern New England combined Packing Party!!!

Date:      Saturday, December 1st; with a storm date of Sunday, December 2nd

Time:      11:30am – 5:00pm (or until we finish, if earlier)

Place:     Conference Room at Harrington Hospital, Southbridge, MA

Now, wait, before everyone questions the location; consider this – From the hospital it is 1 hour to Hartford, CT (mainly due to traffic during the week);  from the hospital to Providence, RI – 1 hour;  from Boston, MA – 1 hour; from Worcester, MA – 40 minutes tops; from Groton, MA & Plainville, MA – 45 minutes. (We timed it & checked it out with the Physician Recruiter at the hospital.)

This really is a central location.  And, because it is central it provides all those Moms who have wanted to attend a packing party, but felt the location was too far to travel, with a party that is central to all.

SO THIS ONE’S FOR YOU…    Don’t know what a packing party is?  Read on:

The recipients and their wish list will be posted on each states’ page in Navy For Moms in the next few days.  The packages will be received in Jan. so nothing holiday related.  From the wish list, you gather by purchasing or seeking donations of any or all the items – it is totally up to you & what you find fits within your own budget, time limits & what you want to do.

Letters and cards or children’s drawn pictures are always requested.  Remember: items will be used up, snacks eaten; but, we know, from experience, that the letters, notes, cards and pictures are held on to for months!!  So if that is what you can afford to do, come and bring those items with you – we’ll need them!!

You need to bring a bag lunch & something to drink.  We will bring our items into the hospital and then have lunch together, chatting & getting to know each other.  Bring a picture of your sailor so we all can share!

Promptly at 12pm we’ll begin the process:  start setting out items; putting boxes together; packing them; filling out customs forms and mailing labels.  You’ll be amazed at how quickly a group of determined Navy Mommas can get this job done!

In the process, you will be shipping a lot of “Mom-love” to a group of servicemen/women deployed overseas, some of whom have never received a care package from home!  You will also get to know women from southern New England having the same experiences & emotions as you!  Have a lot of fun!!  With lots of laughing (or crying if needed with hugs mixed in) as we support one another thru whatever is going on with our sailors!!!

What to bring:  MAIL, items from the wish list, a pen or marker, scissors, packing tape (if you have some), a bag lunch and beverage, and, of course, Yourself.  Don’t forget your sailor’s picture to show off!

We will provide boxes, customs forms and labels.  And, a surprise or two as well.

Please contact Sheryl or Donna in either of the following ways:

Sheryl:  on Navy for Moms = Sheryl  Navy 2; by email:  snowmom6@charter.net

Donna:  on Navy for Moms = Proud Navy/NYPD Mom (Donna); by email: DJLCM2B@AOL.COM

We NEED to hear from you in the next 3 days to get an estimate of how many to plan for.

If you want to assist with the planning, let us know that too. More hands make light work...

I'm really interested, but there is a possibility that I will be having Rotator Cuff surgery close to that day.  If the surgery is scheduled for afterwards, then I may likely come, but won't know until I finish my medical appointments.

Good luck with your surgery.  My sister in law had it done last year and all went well.

I hope I get the chance to meet you at the packing party.

At little about me, or should I say my son Andrew.  He joined this past March.  He's stationed in San Diego and has enjoyed everyday since joining.  A big change from Trumbull!

I'd like to hear how your son is doing.

Donna B.

Donna,

where do I find the page that has the "wish List item"?

thanks,

Donna B.

This is where the wish list will be posted as soon as we get it.  I'm going to try and make some calls to "the powers that be" and see if we can at least get some hints on what they are want.  In the meantime, I will go and find the general wish list and post the items on that here.

I can tell you that the group is 106 Air Force men/women deployed in the sandbox.  I don't know the ratio of men to women, but it is probably higher for men.

Let me see what I can get posted.  It may take a day or two to reach the appropriate person, but we'll get something up as quick as we can.

Hi Sorry I'm late but I just saw this.  It's been a bad few months in my household. Anyway, I'm interested is this still happening?

Susan

Hi Susan!

Yes, this party is a GO!!  I really hope that you will be able to come.  I think our rsvp yes count is around 12 or so.  It should be a lot of fun!

I'm sorry you've had some bad times.  I do hope that things are on the up-swing now for you and your family!!

Looking forward to seeing you on the 1st!

Navy Momma hugs to you,

Donna

JUST A QUICK NOTE TO YOU ALL:

On Wednesday morning I am having a knee replacement procedure done.  It has totally come upon me out of the blue.  I thought it was something like sciatica (sp?), but it turned out that my left knee has totally disintegrated.  No wonder I was having trouble walking, falling and in terrible pain!

So I won't be able to access a computer, possibly for up to 2 weeks.  If you have any questions, please, please feel free to contact Sheryl, her info is in the above discussion, or you can contact CT's own Donna, see her comments below so you will know which Donna she is!  (Take note of her picture!!!)  Both of the ladies will be able to help I'm sure!!  And, I will certainly let you know when I'm back with my beloved computer!  lol

Thank you Donna for all your help and for jumping in to give Sheryl a hand so she doesn't have to do this alone.  It is the biggest undertaking we've ever done.  So THANK YOU VERY MUCH, my new Navy Momma friend!!  You go, girl!  Love you.

Donna,

Sending you warm wishes for a speedy recovery!  Your in our thoughts.

Looking forward to meeting everyone.

Hi good evening Connecticut Moms - yes I'm bugging you all again in Donnas absence ( or annoyance )
Ok time and venue are all set and now we just need a head count from you all , please contact Donna or myself if you are thinking about coming , are coming , or want to get your donated items to a Mom who is coming .
This is a special adoption for me , probably my last in New England !
I know for sure that our group will be small , but not insignificant . They have some serious items on their wish list too . Yes also all the usual , snacks , beef jerky , nuts , sunflower seeds , toiletries for male and females . But also x box games ,long green sox, headphones ,or ear buds, workout supplements like casein , ON protein , cliff bars . Drink sachets , microwaveable snacks and treats to name a few .

PLEASE seriously think about your son , daughter or husband not having home comforts around them before you decide this packing party is too far for you to attend . Maybe get your donated items to a mom who is coming to join in the fun . Come on Connecticut Moms lets get chatting on this :)

Ill be checking in to see how many more takers we have on this event . But you can pm me too at
Snowmom6@charter.net Thanks ladies
Sheryl

This Trumbull mom wants to know where in the world is all my other CT mom's hanging out?

Don't worry Donna , this MA mom has got your back ......it's awfully quiet on here though ...

Do we have any more Moms, wives or girlfriends that are coming along to the packing party ? Donna /NYPD. Will be on her way to the hospital in a few hours . I would love when she comes out of recovery room to tell her that we have the mother load of moms attending ...

It's a good drive , very nice hospital ,plenty of parking , you can bring your own lunch , hot and cold running water, heating and A/C So what could be a nicer way to spend some time with other Navy moms ?????

Don't worry Donna - I've got your back - right behind Sheryl!  Unfortunately I will be on my back!!  Take care girlfriend.  So anxious to meet you IRL, can't wait until tomorrow is over, then maybe we can at least have a short chat?!  I'd love that.
