So I have been looking through many places online trying to find the cheapest flights for when my husband graduates. Does anyone know about any affordable flights? I am going to be traveling with two children ages 9 and 7. So I am looking at some crazy priced airfare as of right now. Its looking to cost around $1200 for just our flight. Saving up to go and want to see if there is cheaper out there. So we can afford to go. Thanks- :)
From Killeen I would imagine you're driving into DFW? Check out Southwest, it may be a bit more flights involved, but you can change plans if you need to. There is always the chance that your husband doesn't graduate with his class. Most airlines will charge you a ton more to cancel.
You might want to see if Midway is any cheaper.
Also, check into whether it's cheaper to fly to Milwaukee. The drive is just a touch further and rental cars should be cheaper.
You also may want to consider taking the train. It will take quite a bit longer, but save you a ton, and your kids would enjoy it more.
Also, make sure and reserve your hotel room. The Navy Lodge is the cheapest and closest.
I would be flying through GRK. Its in Killeen. I have been looking into trains for sure the price is half of flying. and The train gives a 15% discount for military ID holders for the enlisted and the enlisted's dependants. So i am Prob going to do that. But the train ride is almost 27 hours one way...lol.....Crazy long with two kids. I also have been talking with my father -in-law and he wants to get a hotel to share. That will help a lot with costs. Thanks so much for all your wonderful advice.
I've done Amtrak with kids before, and it was great. They can get up and go to the observation car, Amtrak plays movies in the observation car in the evening, and your kids can bring along books and snacks and stuff. Unlike planes, they can have lots of stuff and don't have to sit still all the time. We always brought along a picnic cooler full of food. Mostly they spend their time looking out the windows, the train tracks often go places that people don't generally get to see.
Also, the Navy Lodge has some attached rooms. You can get two rooms for $65 each, and keep a door open between them. Many of the rooms also have kitchens, so you can save money that way. Also, your sailor can have a home-cooked meal, which they really start to crave after 8 weeks of Navy food.
No not yet..You lucky lady! :) I will be watching for my mail man a lot more today though...hahahaha....
