OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind.  In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships."  OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

Jaysmom...look in the discussion forum of your PIR group for the questionaire, you may have to click on "view all" You need to verify with him about the G&G...the info on here is not always right...only go by what he says to be sure. You can question him cause they don't always know (sometimes we know more than they do)

Will do, thanks so much!

They have to be back on base at 8pm or so...unless they are G&G

G&G is Grad and Go...if they have to leave for their A school right after PIR

Usually about week 4 or 5 but some don't know till later...just ask him to let you know ASAP...do you know where his A school is or what his job will be?

When we visited our son for PIR we stayed at the Navy Lodge which is 3 miles away from the base entrance.  The cost is $65 per night (no tax because it is a military establishment), you get two queen beds, a mini fridge, a microwave, large flat-screen television, dvd player, and the basic hotel ammenities (but no pool).  It's clean, easily accessible, and very affordable.  And you don't have to be military to stay there:  just give them the name of your recruit/sailor and they will reserve your room in their name.

What is there to do in winter? OMG in Jan.
thank you
This is so helpful.  My son leaves for Great Lakes next week.  It's all happening so fast.  I've already been thinking about graduation and know I will be attending.  I wondered if he had to go back to the barracks at night or if he'd be at liberty all weekend.     I'm so thankful for this website it is helping me with all those anxious feelings.  I realize I'm not alone.  We all love our boys.  Love seeing them be men but they will always be our boys in our hearts.
