Hey guys,

I am starting to design the USS Reuben James Ship-2 challenge coin.

I need some current info on the 900's division so I can bring it all together. Are the 900's still considered/called triple threat? ..drill with rifle..flag carriers....band?     What is some other info I should know about the 900 division.  What is something that a sailor can link the 900 division to RTC Great Lakes?

Do you have any cool pictures or graphics for the various 900 sections (band, flags, drill)?  I need to come up with some designs that would look cool.

The other coins were easy since it deals strictly with boot camp.  The 900's division are a little different and I want to get the coin correct for the sailors...

Thanks again,

Craig

Ok here are some pictures of what I was thinking of.....sort of. They are fire department maltese crosses and I threw in a picture of an assistant chief badge to show the 3 bugles I mentioned above. Check out the links...the pictures are way to big to post. LOL.

3 things in the maltese cross

Has the assistant chief badge....

Maltese Cross

Another Maltese Cross

Yet another Maltese Cross

Hopefully this gets across my meaning. I think a single music note like this would work best.

Tom

Craig, these came to mind when I was thinking about the 900's.

For choir:

For Sticks/flags

For Drums:

For Drill/rifle:

 For ShipStaff:

I like some of the layering images from Haup9 and the maltese cross looks.

Haup & FTLW - I can work with these.  This is exactly what I need.  I'm going to try one more time to get my original version through, but like I said, they are really, really, small and I need to get something that when people look at it quick, they understand what it means.  You shouldn't need a magnifying glass to make it out...

Thanks for the inputs....

Craig - Glad to have been of help! I'm sure whatever you come up with will look awesome!!

Tom

Craig...me too...I love that these coins are being made and it's wonderful that you are designing them. I agree I'm sure that whatever you come up with will be great!

I agree! What great ideas. I love the Maltese cross looks too and the icons from FTLW look just simple enough to work. Just a personal note, while they are the Performance Divisions, remember that not all are performers. I don't know what role my son has yet but I am assuming that he is either standing watch or marching. He is not musically inclined at all and has never done flags or rifle. I agree that the all sections are important and need to be shown but maybe they go in sections of the outer cross and the sailor in the center since they are all sailors at heart. Just my 2 cents. I do agree with FTLW. Your other designs have been perfect and seem to reflect all of the history involved with the divisions. I am amazed with your knowledge and attention to detail. I have enjoyed looking at the other coins you have created.

Thank you for taking this challenge on and for sharing all of your knowledge with us. I may not be posting much but that is because I have found all of the answers to my questions to date on this site.

You can consider me a daily dedicated lurker!

Are these coins going to be available for us to get for our SR's? Please let us know how we would be able to order one. I'm new to this, so I don't know how this works.

Trudy - Craig designs them and then someone else sells them. They are using Craig's website to help sell them since they donate a portion to him to help run the site. Here is the site. http://www.navydep.com/forums/showthread.php?t=2730 So far the Triton (Ship 12), Kennedy (Ship 9) & Chicago (Ship 7) are done. You can also find the coins on Ebay. I hope this helps and I hope the Reuben James gets done soon so I can have one to present to my SA on 9/7!!!!

Beleive me, I'm trying.

I have to make it perfect for the sailor.  I know 20 years from now when they show their own child their coin collection, I want the child to say "Wow, that's cool".

I'm hoping I will have something done soon.

Whenever it is done, I plan to order one. I didn't mean to sound pushy if I did. I just love the idea of giving him the coin. We have a back up plan for PIR if we don't have it by then so it's all good!!

Tom

Craig, do you have an ETA on this challenge coin?

Any word yet?
