Hi everybody. My boyfriend just graduated A-school today and I was wondering if anyone could tell me why he had to pay $580 to get his ticket rerouted so that he could come home for two weeks.

Thanks :)

We had to pay for our son's airline ticket last year to come home for Christmas, although it wasn't nearly as expensive as $580. When he graduated from A school in July, he flew home for a couple of weeks, and if I remember right, Las Vegas was about the same price as flying to San Diego so there was no extra charge that I am aware of.  Maybe he did pay more and I was unaware of it but he wouldn't have flown home if it had cost as much as your fiance had to pay.

My husband graduated A-school a couple of weeks ago, but he bought his ticket last month in preperation for standown.  I think his ticket was around 400.00. Are you wondering why he had his ticket rerouted or why it was so expensive?

I'm wondering why it costs so much...thats a really expensive ticket. especially since i looked up what it would cost him to fly from chicago to home last night and the tickets were around $300.00.

The USN only pays for them to get to their next duty station.  If the Sailor decides to take leave prior to going to their next duty staiton it is on them to pay the difference.  Leave is the same as vacation, does your employeer pay for you to go on vacation?

I understand that but i looked at the price of airline tickets last night and it would cost only $300.00 for an airplane ticket from Chicago to home.

Example:

Sailor is leaving Great lakes and next duty station is San diego, but wants to go to VA for leave.

Navy gives sailor ticket from GL to San Diego, cost $500.

Sailor wants to go to VA first, ticket from GL to VA = $500, ticket from VA to San Diego = $1000.  Navy would only pay the $500 cost of ticket from GL to San Diego.  Sailor must pay the $1000.

Costs are fake....just easier to show cost.

Airline tickets can vary given any day of the week. And of course if you are checking luggage or bringing a bag on board. So be prepare for hidden charges as well
