Ah! The ole' Mark Twain aka Samuel Clemens comment! That's may Alma Mater (was from near his birthplace)- only because I've been told by my boys how I am "older than dirt" and rode the dinosaurs before cars were invented!

Hey everyone, I will give you our experience with the "after" PIR. We had our son for 45 min after the PIR and then we had to leave base while he went to sign in to the A school base, which took about 4 hrs. We picked him up at the visitors center and had him from Friday afternoon until 8:30 Sunday night. He was NOT a grad and go. On Saturday morning we had him sign us into the base and we took in his personal items, clothing and the such. They are allowed to have their cell phones and computers and any thing else they want. But a word of warning. There is theft that goes on so make sure they lock up EVERYTHING!!!!!! Now, all the stuff they have in their rooms they have to move by themselves when they change ships. If they cannot carry it in one trip they will have to leave it behind. My son had to leave a bunch of stuff with his old roommate and couldn't get back to get it for 3 weeks. He ended up mailing a big box home and his Fiancee brought home a large suitcase full her last trip out. He said it is a nightmare to try and move in less than a days notice and haul all that stuff. He got it down to one sea bag a backpack and a small rolling suitcase and he still may send more home. He has moved 3 times and is in his 4th ship since 01/09/09. If anyone has any questions please feel free to poke me and I will answer the best I can. Peace, Bill

Kelly, you are so correct! Will's the man for this answer. When my gr-son had his PIR, he went to the other side immediately.

Kelly...My gr-son is on the "other side" on hold for ATT. He has completed SCC and Phase 2. I am positive his parents took him his computer and bought him a new cell phone while they were in GL for his PIR. Hope that helps a little.
