During Ellie's call last night, she expressed the need for religious icons by the Chaplains on base to give to the recruits in boot camp to wear as an expression of their personal faith throughout their service in the Navy.
I am going to start a collection at my Church and ask for crosses to be donated by individuals for the support of our future sailors. She said that all faiths are represented, so if you would like to do the same in your community, it would be very much appreciated.
I am going to bring the ones I collect in person with me to the PIR - if others want to join up with me in this cause, I can make a box at Meet & Greet for donations. I will present them to the Chaplain on Sunday 8/15 when we attend worship services with Ellie on base.
She said the icons have to be silver tone and must be smaller than a dog tag. I did find a site for reference that had crosses as such. http://soldiercity.com/military-jewerly-cross-pendant.html
Let me know if you are interested in supporting my daughter's request, and supporting our recruits in this way.
