My son goes to boot camp 5/8. I know I'm not the only one who feels this way but how do I get over the feeling like my heart is going to be ripped out of my chest??

If it is, its the next town over

Oh there are sooo many acronyms! MEPS= military entrance processing station (I think). It's where your son will swear in. NMHs= Navy mom hugs. You will give and receive lots of those :-)

Do they swear in right at graduation?

He will swear in at MEPS before shipping to the RTC. He will be "Enlisted" from that point on. There is no need to swear in at PIR (graduation).

The Page, What does ??? mean? (A Guide to Navy Abbreviations and Terminology), will help you with many of the new terms you will come across.

Your MEPS could be quite a distance away. It is where your son went for his enlistment physical, initial swearing in, and took the ASVAB.

Yes, I believe its in the next state over. :(

well, the time is here (Sunday) don't quite know if I can handle it :(

My son left on the 10th and I feel your pain.  "the box" was attempted to be delivered today but since no one was home, they did not leave it.  Kinda of glad because I'm by myself this evening and my husband would probably get home and think the worse if he found me sobbing. I've made arrangements to have it delivered tomorrow.  We'll see how I do. I love we can all share the same feelings here. It's helpful to know you are not doing this alone. :)

How did you do?

Thank you!

We never expected a box - we told our son to donate his clothes / shoes to Goodwill - when we go them back we were confused / amused ... I was not happy that a little note wasn't stashed in a pocket or shoe or something - about a week later we got the form letter telling us his address, when PIR is, and who is on the list for PIR ... now we're less than 3 weeks away and I CAN'T WAIT!  I keep looking at the pictures on the facebook page hoping to catch a glimpse of him, but no such luck... BUT I know he's part of the next 2 PIRs since he's a flag bearer... so now I'm anxious about Friday so I can see him on the live feed!
