hi wanted to know if anyone has experienced being sent home during boot camp for having an iep(individual education plan )my son was excepted into the nuclear program always excelled in school and now 2 weeks into boot camp being sent home for having an iep when he was in first grad in florida ,
Back in first grade hIs teacher recommended holding him back and getting him a iep because his reading was weak ,so he would pass the fcat test come 3rd grad because so many students were being held back if they did not pass this test even if they were straight a students.
Most of all why was'nt this looked at before he went now ihave a 20 year old heart broken child comimg home from what he dreamed of doing
I'd say go to the Ship 5 group and see if they can help you there. I know having an IEP is not a disqualification. My Sailor had one. If he wants to stay he should see about fighting it!
Thank you i am looking in to it now because i really don't understand all this is new to me
he never was diagnosed add or adhd never took medication and was in gifted since 5 grade
contact for Ship 5:
Cindy3boyz-I'm not sure of the answer, other than if it was documented as ADD or ADHD or if he took medication--I know this will disqualify him.
Cindy3boyz, I am sorry to hear! I hope that you may find the answers to your questions.
