**UPDATE - 2020**

Due to COVID there is no public PIR. The graduations are on Thursday, and the video of the graduation is posted on RTC's FaceBook on Friday at approx 3pm. Please keep in mind that a division may need to complete additional quarantine during training which will delay their graduation.

Please note! Changes to this guide happened in October 2017. Tickets are now issued for all guests, and all guests must have a ticket to enter base. A separate parking pass is no longer needed to drive on to base for parking.

Please see changes to attending PIR in the PAGES column. The PAGES are located under the member icons on the right side.

Anyone here with son/daughter having PIR September 18?

Our oldest son is in A school (CTI but switching to CTR this week) and our second is in boot for Nuke, PIR Sept 18.

I’m concerned that I have yet to hear from him since the original “I’m here” call and the form letter.  He is over halfway done and no calls yet.

I’m trying to figure out if he just hasn’t had the opportunity, or if he has chosen not to call.  He is our hardest son to get close to and to understand as an extreme introvert, and I’m just hoping that the silence is just because he hasn’t been permitted a call yet.  But please let me know if you have had a call!

Also we are really anxious that he buy the photos, because our oldest didn’t and we had to convince them to allow us to order the photos ourselves!  So hopefully second son will just buy the photos, especially since now we can’t even see him graduate.

Same ship actually, different division. I’m glad you got a letter!  My S.R. said there’s been some confirmed Covid in their ship - hopefully it stays out of their division!

Oh yikes!!!  That’s not good, especially after quarantine????

I wonder why they’re being so stingy with calls????  My older son got several calls throughout boot camp, plus bonus ones due to Thanksgiving.

I think there’s still contractors that visit the facilities etc.  I don’t really know otherwise.  I’m hoping that these young guys and gals being in good health helps them have only minor cases if they do get it.

This is my first kid so I’m new to this but I wonder if there are fewer phone calls because it’s more diff oily to move people around the facility due to Covid. Just a thought.

You know what, you’re probably right...they probably have to social distance more on the phones than before.  Good point.

Jessica & StarryNights  -- You got it!! There is 1 phone bank.  Everytime it is used it then has to be sanitized before the next group can come in to use it.  This 1 detail would be enough to cut the number of phone calls nearly in 1/2 but then you factor in all the training that needs to happen and the time lost to ROM and the impact that has and there just is not enough opportunities to schedule phone calls!  The I'm here call is done on their personal cell phone but all other calls come from the phone bank.  They HAVE to allow the "I'm a Sailor" Call.  The "I'm still alive" Call they are really trying to make sure it's scheduled but earned calls.... Far fewer of those just because of COVID Social Distancing, Sanitation protocols and training schedules.  As for where the COVID is coming from..... That is the Million dollar question!! If it's contractors coming from off base you would think all the testing would have found that or contact tracing would help them track that down.  If they came to BC exposed that is what ROM is supposed to reveal.  SO the question Everyone wants to know is where is it coming from???? If they can figure that out maybe they can reopen the country.

Apparently the incubation for some people must be longer than the quarantine time.  I remember earlier on in the pandemic they were saying that the incubation could be pretty extended. The 14 days was supposed to be fairly standard and catch most of the virus but I guess if only a couple of people happened to catch it on the airplane out or something and then if incubation took 15-16 days, that would explain it.

I feel a lot better knowing the calls are reduced due to distancing, especially now that I actually got a letter.  I think it made it WORSE for me knowing my previous son had like 3-4 phone calls and then being almost at week six without having received one call from my second son!

It is also entirely possible that they miss a call time due to other obligations (duty, Medical, Watch) and not necessarily because of anything bad/wrong!

Good Morning StarryNights,

How are you doing? I'm glad that you got a letter!! Whoo hoo that's awesome!!!

Ok - that makes sense. My kids are back to school here and I just know that things that weren’t a big deal before are now and I’m sure that’s the case (even more so) at boot camp.  I did get a letter from my son saying there are confirmed cases of COVID in his ship but haven’t made it to his division so I wonder if that’s affecting things.

Good Morning Jessica,

Just stopping by to see how you are doing? Be safe and healthy out there.  :)

Thank you!  I’m hanging in there - Monday will be 6 weeks that my SR has been gone and I’ve gotten a couple letters and no phone call. Counting down to PIR!

Hope you’re doing well and have a nice weekend!

Hey Jessica,

Is your PIR this week or next? How are you doing? How is your SR doing? Here's hoping you have gotten a phone call by now.

I have been good. We have started on line school with the students so we will see how this week works out.  :)
