Jodiw911 - Welcome to BCmoms group. My son went to BC two years ago. I had not gone to sleep yet before his "I'm Here call" arrived, but it was still unnerving. It sounded so robotic and like a recorded message. I as well said, "I love you" several times.
The ladies just posted yesterday that they will not be sending the recruit's cell phone and belongings home anymore but storing them there at RTC. I don't know which TG that actually goes into effect for, but you may or may not receive your SR's box of belongings. If you don't and you don't hear from him (which is a good thing at this point) you should expect the Form letter in about 14 business days - but even that can vary some.
Feel free to post comments in the main comment section of BC Mom and be sure to read all of the information in the pages to the right side of the main group page and above where the discussions are. There is a lot of helpful information posted there.
Navy Mom Hugs! It will likely be 3 - 4 weeks before you have an "I'm OK" call, in the meantime stay busy, give yourself grace as this is a rollercoaster ride. One minute, you are very excited and proud of your son, the next you just can't help but wonder what is going on with their day, what they are going through and how their emotions and stamina is handling BC. There are also some videos posted to the left of the main BCMom page that will give you some idea of what is going on as well.
My son is with yours - he left yesterday also! :-) This site is SO helpful - lots of great information to help us be prepared.
I'm in Texas - how about you?
Hi Kim - if your son is going to Charleston then he must be a nuke! Join us in our nuke moms group - here's the link:
My son wanted Nuke but he’s colorblind :( He’s excites though for his A school
Welcome Jodiw911-- You are not alone and we'll get you through this!! Our kids are learning to work as a team so that is what we do here!! It's been 6 years but in many ways it still feels like it was yesterday!
Read all you can, Watch the "Making a Sailor" videos that are pinned on the left and feel free to post or ask your questions.
For your Information: This was posted to the RTC FB page and will apply to your Seaman Recruit (SR) "Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. They will not be able to open the boxes until after they have left RTC. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52."
You will not get his belongings back so hopefully he packed a charger!! Today will be Processing day 1 (P1) of 5. Do not count Saturday or Sunday in counting his time there. It is possible that for recruits arriving at the end of the week they may end up in a Push Div which just means they are the last Division (Div) in the Training Group (TG) or they may have an extra week due to P-hold days.. Waiting for additional recruits to arrive. You will not know until his form letter arrives in ~14-21 business days. Resist the urge to call the recruiter since their information may not be accurate. IF after 21 days you have not heard anything then you can call. Start writing now so you can send letters the day you get the form letter! Be sure to number them in some way so they know the order to read them . Remember... NO News is GOOD NEWS!!! Repeat as needed!! (daily, hourly, minute by minute!!!!) We haven't lost a mom to Bootcamp and we won't start with you!!
