I am very concerned about all the nasty weather in the region.  Anyone know if they provide them with extra clothing when they are outdoors?  Does the weather impact the movement of PIR dates?

Yes, your recruit is well insulated against the cold and not out in it any more than is needed to move from Ship to Ship. When recruits are outside they are bundled up so that you can only see their eyes. Many went to the NEX to get earmuffs this weekend.

All training is indoors and they take extra precautions when they must be outdoors.

No, the weather will not affect PIR dates. Every once in a while the starting time of PIR will be delayed due to road conditions, but that has only happened once that I can remember.

Yeah, you’re right lemonelephant! On Saturday, while talking on the phone with my son, I heard somebody calling him to buy “earmuffs” so his call was cut short.

I don't know how it impacts PIR unless the roads are so bad that you can't travel.  We had bad weather when we were there for the 1/18/19 PIR.  It didn't effect the actual PIR, but we watched the roads and weather when we had our Sailor off base.  The big impact for us was at the airport the next morning.  He told us he'd be there about 4 a.m. for his flight to A School.  We were there and the roads were not good.  At the USO office, they told us that several flights had been cancelled and delayed and they were turning some of the buses back due to this.  We had no way of contacting our Sailor and I really needed to give him his cell phone.  His bus did arrive about an hour later and we were able to spend time with him.  With the weather, all of our flights were delayed/cancelled.  He finally got out that evening and I didn't get out until the next day.  Be prepared for a long day at the airport!  Many Sailors didn't get out and spent the night in the USO club (they had cots for them).  As flights were cancelled, some Sailors didn't even leave the RTC and flew out the next day.  It was pretty crazy with not being able to communicate with my son while trying to plan what to do if we couldn't meet up.  I was super impressed with how all the Sailors conducted themselves at the airport with all the delays and cancelled flights.  They were helpful and supportive of each other and those with phones were sharing them so others could let families know what was happening.  Many were worried about being late to their A School's and nervous about not making that first great impression to their new command.
