Wow. I feel so bad you and your son. I hope he isn't in a lot of pain.  Is he still in BC?  I would want to be there for the surgery, too.  Is there any way to find out the details and if you can be there?  I wish you the best of luck.

no he is stationed in NC i am still waiting for info

If he's at CL there's a Navy Hospital on base (it's not too far from the main gate).  If you plan to go, your son will need to call the gate and schedule to have a multi day pass ready for you.  Find a local hotel, there are plenty, but if you have to fly into Jacksonville NC (Ellis) airport it may be expensive on short notice.  I don't expect there will be any problem with you visiting if you would like to.

he is stationed at new river, and yes i have been looking into flights to ellis they are pretty reasonalble at this time but really cant make any reservations till he gets his actual date for surgery.

You could also look into staying at the Lejeune Inn on base as well if it's not booked up.  It's not too far from the Naval Hospital...

I had to google hip labral tear - always good to learn things! - and read this from the National Institutes of Health:  "...return to sport is favorable in athletes if the tears are properly treated with arthroscopic intervention."  Navy Medicine truly is tops, and we'll all have him in our thoughts and prayers on the eleventh - and that goes for you and your husband, too :)

BTW here is some trivia that I learned in college Anatomy and Physiology class - "acetabulum" (the word for hip socket) comes from the Latin word for a small cup that was used for dipping bread in vinegar!  For some reason that has stuck with me LOL  Anyway, here's to a successful procedure and quick recovery for your son.
