For the privacy and safety of you and/or your sailor, NO LAST NAMES ARE ALLOWED, even if your last name differs from that of your sailor (please make sure your URL address does not include your last name either). Also, please do not include your email address in your user name. Go to "Settings" above to set your Username. While there, complete your Profile so you can post and share photos and videos of your Sailor and share stories with other moms!

Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security
Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.
DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.
DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

CMM, I love it "he was quiet for a minute..." that's what my son would do, check out what was happening...and then tell mom he'll call back later!
Buildings there are better prepared for it. I was tending bar in Northern CA one day, and the glassware started falling off the shelves...'what do I do?'...GET OUT OF THE WAY, my boss said. well, yeah.

Hey, all, been so busy with the SXSW music festival here in Austin, life is slowly getting back to normal.
Sailorsgirl, I would check the link in the previous post to yours for questions about A school, but off hand I'd have to say, he's going to be a very busy man as of that Monday when school starts...They cram a lot into that school time, lots of studying, no distractions needed....good luck!
We'll miss you, Sharon...that site just isn't for me, thanks for the invite, been there, done that! thanks again!

My fiance is currently in boot camp with a PIR on 5/7/10. He is staying in Great Lakes, IL for A school as well... his rate is HM - hospital corpsman. I'm wondering if I will only be able to visit him Liberty Weekend? Or if there is a way to visit the sailors on base during phase one of A School? In that case I'd look into staying for a longer visit than just the short weekend. I live on the west coast so it's quite a production to go to Chicago to see him... I'm flying in for PIR on Thursday, PIR is on Friday, he gets liberty weekend, then has to check back in Sunday night. If I stay an extra couple nights (Mon, Tues, Wed or so) would I be able to see him after school? I don't mind going on base if I have to...

Good morning Moms! Hope y'all had great weekends! Got through mine fairly well, yesterday woke in the morning to a thunderstorm and kind of found it appropriate for the tasks to follow. Went to the cemetery early on and left some seashells on Patty's site (just hate the word grave) and later in the afternoon attended Ben's services. What a turn out, standing room only, he was a well loved man and will be missed by many. Got through the day weekend and today is a new week, the sun is shining and I started my day with a skype from my cub! Life is good!

Jana - they pretty much get at least a test a week, sometimes 2! How wonderful that your son is enjoying this, I think that makes a world of difference and I know when my son was enjoying it, it made this mom feel a lot better too! Just keep encouraging him to study, study, study and then study some more! :0)
