My husband was a nuke.  We were married before he left for boot camp.  Now, granted this was back in 1992, but I can't imagine things have changed that much.  Yes, the Navy moved me and our daughter to his A school and the other schools that followed.  Considering the length of DLI, no matter what his language, I can't imagine the Navy not moving you.

Sooooooo..... this might be the wrong place for this question (apologies in advance if it is!)

Anyway, I'm just dying at the thought of seeing my husband PIR and then kissing him goodbye AGAIN!  From what I understand, though, married sailors (we were married long before he enlisted) and sailors with A-School that last over a year, can get some time off between basic training and A-school.  And I've also heard that the Navy will move the sailor + family if the a-school is longer, too.  Anyone experienced this sort of thing?

My husband's a-school at the DLI is going to be a while, so I am just hoping that he might get some time away.

Thank you!

PS - I posted this same message over in another group... so sorry if it is a repeat for you!

Ellen,

I would imagine that you won't get far. If your child is of legal age and of sound mind, there is no reason for anyone to discuss his medical condition with you, even if you are his mom. Sounds harsh I know, but your boy is a man now. And a Sailor!

I do not know what initials my son falls under???  But he will be going to DLI after boot camp. this seems to be the right group. Does anyone have a child/loved one in boot camp currently?

Thanks Sharon, I think that I know which language the Navy thinks is most valuable so now I have a good idea- and it's the one he would choose too. He grew up bilingual so I think that gave him an edge on the test. Thanks for the info!

Do our sailors get to choose their language does anyone know? For example, my son is eligible for any language.

Thanks,

Leslie

Hello everyone! :) I came on this group about two months ago and got some advice from some lovely ladies. I just wanted to share that I'm here in Monterey now.  Things are amazing. We spent 7 months apart and it was so hard, for anyone that is going through that now my heart goes out to you but for us... it was completely worth it. I was, however, a bit upset by how CA wants to let you get married. We had to pay $75 dollars for a license and then an additional $150 to have the license signed. That's just unacceptable in my eyes. Being a military couple you don't have a lot of extra money and to pay that amount for a signature should not happen. Therefore, I have gotten the authorization to sign marriage licenses and will be doing that for military couples. I do have to pay a fee every year, but I will never charge more than $40 for a signature. If anyone knows of a couple who needs this done please give them my email. sjohnston1129@gmail.com. Thanks again for the great advice ladies, I love it here.

I guess that it is true, here all the information is consolidated and easy to read all in one neat little package.  Whereas, on FB one would have to know whose profile to search for.  Kind of makes sense that they'd frown on site like these.  The information I've garnered here has been invaluable.   I certainly hope all the moms don't get scared off.
