Seems to me FB gets more traffic than N4M does.  I wonder what the difference is. I feel more comfortable posting questions and info here than I would on FB.  Hmm.

Hi Everyone. I've not spent a lot of time as of yet reading older posts.  I was waiting for my son to get through BC and didn't want to put the cart before the horse...that's an old saying I haven't used in awhile!  LOL. I plan to go through and read through the older posts as I am sure there is a good deal of information to be found there.   Until I get to that;  I have three questions to throw out for anyone who might have  answers:

My son's PIR is on 4/29/11 (!!)  We've been told by a marine friend that is familiar with DLI, that once he gets to DLI he will have to speak in whatever language has been settled upon for him.  Is that true or do they give him time to  learn  the language?    Second,  can he use Rosetta Stone software while he is in holding and waiting on security clearance?   Finally; does anyone have any other suggestions for me to pass on about how he can jumpstart learning his language?

Oh and also, what am I supposed to expect with this 'background/security check'? He called today to make sure he had the right address to my school and my home address. Should I expect someone at my doorstep soon or just a phone call?

Hi all! My boyfriend will be graduating from BC Thursday, May 26th and then he will go to Monterey for A school. Does anyone know what the chances are that he will have to fly out the day or the day after he graduates?

Greetings all,

My daughter completes her BC at GL on Friday and will depart for Monterey shortly thereafter.  I have been reading this site since my daughter signed on a year ago. Fantastic resource and I wanted to thank the previous mom's who have left such good info. It has also been great to follow your sailors progress and I wish them all well!

Thanks for the welcome Dee! My son doesn't report to BC until mid-Nov...and he is distressed by the long wait. I have heard of some other sailors-to-be being called up earlier than their original date but not CTI, have you?

Wow I'm so glad your house-hunting story has a happy ending! My son will start CTI training in Jan 2012 and he can't wait...:)

There are lots of faces in this section of the photos. I was so happy to see my son in the crowd. I've been looking for months, and this was the first photo of him.

SMSantens--thank you so much for letting me know what is going on.  I've been worried sick all morning!  Please keep me posted in case my son doesn't get to call today.  Thank you again.
