:) thanks ladies. I've heard "great" things about that hill. I can't wait to experience it for myself. tennis shoes seems like a must there. We are going to be very close to lighthouse ave. I'll google that. You guys are wonderful, thanks again for all of your help.

hello everyone :) I'm moving to monterey this week and everything is going really well. We found a home to rent 2 blocks from DLI and beach and brought bikes for around the peninsula. We only have one minor set back that I hope you wonderful people can help me with. I need to find a notary. We are not very religious and have to pick up the marriage license on Thursday. Does anyone know of someone who would be able to sign and just mail it in? Thanks for your help. :)

My husband and I were married before recruit training. Tricare cover me and our daughter while he was in boot camp. It seems counterintuitive it would cover dependents and not the service member.

Thanks for the welcome Dee and Janet R.  My son has been working out on his own and with his recruiter so hopefully that will go well.  I think the thing he is most worried about is the swimming.  He's not much of a swimmer ... odd for someone interested in the Navy :)  It was very difficult for me right away but each day I get more used to the idea.  I'm sure when the day comes for him to leave it will be a sad day for me.

I have a question regarding medical insurance.  I'm not sure I understood what  the recruiter told me.  I though that he said that we should be sure to take him off our health insurance before he goes to bootcamp.  Does anyone know how to handle health insurance?

Hi, I am new to this group.  My son will be heading to BC on June 21st and has chosed a CTI as his job.  I am excited for him but sad that he will be leaving.  I appreciate this site and all that I am able to learn about CTIs.  It makes me feel a little better to hear what you all have to say.  I look forward to getting to know you all.

He cross rated over from Great lakes training command.  We finished BC in Nov.  The pictures are amazing but now I want to know more about the secrets of the area. I looked at the places SMSantens recommended and he's going to see them this weekend. They really are great and exactly what we are looking for. Dee do you have a son or spouse there. My name is Sam btw. :)

hello everyone, I'm hoping you can help me. SMSantens I was sent here to find you. I was told that you may be able to help. My soon to be husband and I are about to move to Monterey. He is there on post now but classes have changed and I have to go next week. This leaves little time to find housing there and I have no clue where to start. We would like to live off base, do you have any suggestions? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks :)

Hi Everyone.  I just spent  hours reading the posts on this board, staring at the end and reading my way up!  I know, it's crazy but I was compelled to read it all!  My daughter is DEP, just went to MEPS last week, in the middle of an ice storm.  The classifier was very thorough and directed my daughter into the CTI position.  I am so pleased, from all I've seen this is a great fit for her.  Sounds like a very challenging training program.  Part of me worries that she'll devote enough time to be successful.  (She's one of those kids that does the bare minimum but seems to get by ok!)  But I'm not going to worry about that, I'm sure the Navy will do a fine job convincing her to work hard....(smile).

Glad to see so much information and some activity in this group.  My daughter leaves for BC in August, so we have a really long way to go until she's through all her training.  But, I am so proud and so excited for her.  She has so much opportunity, excellent training, new places and people....it's so suited to her that sometimes I almost laugh about it!  I'm sure many of you understand.

So, I'll be around for a long time!  I look forward to getting acquainted with other Navy Moms!

Dee - It took me months, but I finally got around to make my post about the crazy crap that CTI do in the fleet.   It's up in the discussion area....
