I hope our son GAINS a few pounds while in A school, always been skinny...makes me wonder if he is my son?!!!

Our son also reports that it is hard to get to the galley because of those night classes so I think he has done TacoBell and Subway...a few times now!

She's BACK!!!!!!! We took Patrick his stuff. He had school 3-12 on Fri., so we picked him up Sat and Sun and took him back on the base Sat and Sun Nite. Boy, his barrack is the very last one in the back. What a walk. He was one of four people who got some question right on a test, and he graduates this Wed, then will be moved from that barrack to another. I said good luck carrying his "stuff" with him to the new place. Ha Ha. 4 suitcases he stuffed into 3 bags.
I hate airports. Long story. Should be a blog.
Mary, he is still going to be an FC from what I understand. Maybe I had things mixed up.
I copied and pasted all the info from this group about FC's. It was 3 pgs. and he was actually interested in the whole thing. He said, Yes, Yes, well, thats changed, maybe. Hmmmm.
Apparently, after he finishes A school in Nov., they are thinking of moving the C school up to Great Lakes. We ran into Emily (Lorianne's daughter) and her boyfriend (who is an FC). He wasn't aware of the C school changing to come to GL, but it is a new idea. By the way, when I said good-bye on Sunday, it was almost, by not quite as bad as the PIR good-bye. I thought it was supposed to get better. Maybe by micro-increments, lessened each time so that when we turn 100, it'll be not so bad. lol

Oh my - CCR would be so happy if it was her son, I am waiting to hear from her ...if I have my dates correct I think she went to GL this weekend to visit with him.

Your son didn't carry his orders over to the other side? Now I'm going to be really curious what they say. If I understand correct CCRs son and LynnDears son were switched from FC to ET after they started in the ATT class.

If your son has a phone, he will be able to call you - I hear from Nick almost daily.

You had great timing Kelly, I'm sure they appreciated your help. I wonder if they are CCR or LynnDear's sons (?) They were both due to be FCs and got moved to ETs after starting ATT. My husband will be so disappointed if our son gets moved. I posted info on ET today for the ET moms, AE/CF spins into two classifications ET and FCs. The initial training is the same for both and then they break into their speciailized training fields for more schooling.

Kelly - so happy for you and your son! I'd like to say the adventure starts now but here is what he is in store for...first week out of bc, he goes to a five day indoc class which covers many areas including financial planning - which they earn a college credit for. These were day classes and unless he has duty, he will have the weekends off. Duty for this group is every 4 days. After our son finished indoc, he then went on hold waiting for the next class to begin - it is basic seamanship but it has some fancy name. That is about two weeks long and it is M-F from 3 pm to midnight. Nick is in the final week of that class and is hoping that ATT which is 10 weeks long (basic electronics) starts right up without going into hold again. He got to paint buildings for four days while on hold. I understand once ATT starts, he will be moving into a new dorm again. Notice Julie's comments below - her son PIR-ed in November 07 and is just finishing A school in June. This is a long program with lots of schooling and that is why they require the six yr. enlistment. Hoping that we can learn from Julie as her son will be completing his first leg of school soon.

Julie, all of us moms are curious...has he been told yet if he is heading to C school when he finishes in June or out to a ship? Normally FCs go on to C school in San Diego or Virginia depending on what system they are working on but our son told us last week he is hearing that he may go to a ship first and then sent to C school later. My husband can't believe that is possible as he was an FC and he said even after they complete C school, the senior staff members don't want new folks touching the equipment until they prove their capabilities. These guys treat their equipment better than their most prized possessions!

Kelly, what date did your son do his PIR? Ours was 4/25 but Nick was on hold for about a week before he started his 2 week basic seamanship class. He called today and has a week to go there and is hoping the ATT program starts without another hold. Has your son started the ATT program or? Haven't heard back from the C school mom but believe she is new to the site and is not on much - will keep you posted.

Hi Kelly, our son did go with a six yr contract and specifically for AE/CF but it was open classification for ET, FC, Sonar or CTN. They told him on his 3rd week he would meet with the counselor at BC to determine which rate - he did that and got the FC.

My husband (former FC) does not believe they can send an FC to a ship without C school either as the systems are very complex and would be useless to the fleet as an FC. We have a new mom who's son is graduating from C school today and I sent her an email and hope to hear back from her.

Any of these ratings are really very good, I know they have moved a few into ETs (Lynndear and CCRs son) but my husband is hoping our son will stay an FC...for ego, historical purposes... simply bragging rights to his old FCs friends!!!

Hi all, I posted an article about ATT school that you might be interested in. Look for ATT school.

Hi FC moms, got a call this morning from our Sailor (actually he calls about once a day) he had duty yesterday so he was just turning it over and was heading to bed so he would be awake for his class this afternoon.

He said that he is hearing stories that instead of heading to C school, that they may be sent to a ship as an apprentice and then C school will follow afterwards. Has anyone else heard of this?

My old FC husband said to be able to work on their equipment, they need the C school first as it is very complex systems but things can change.

I had to ask my son if he was concerned about going to a ship and he said no, he really is fine either way just curious. We are going to try to email one of my husband's former FC division mates, he has now been in the Navy for 25 + years and is an E9 in a very heavy position over all of these systems to see if he can share any info with us and I'll keep you posted.
