Been hoping all day for a phone call; did he move to his new building? Did ATT start today? My husband just reminded me that he had duty again today so probably won't hear from him until tomorrow.

CCR, I have to agree ...it is confusing but we are moms not Sailors (lol) and as long as our sons get it - all will be okay.

My husband's last set of orders he became a Master Training Specialist for the C school where the FCs did their advance training. After testing in MEPs and finding out our son qualified for AE/CF - he did some homework and reached out to some other FCs and found that Aegis is the system of choice...if they get a choice. Their technical skills and training that they will receive from the program not to mention the college credits will provide many opportunities in the civilian world. Everything is run on computers today and that is what their systems are all about.

SCC was 14 days long and LynnDear is right about ATT - they all learn electronics basics together and then spin into their specialities.

I'm not remember exactly but it seemed like our son's orders called for one program to be 10 weeks long (I think that is ATT) and the other program would be 20 weeks long (think that is the A school itself) ATT is not A school but it is the basic electronics program that both ratings need before starting the A school.

SCC and indoc is not part of this either - just required classes.

Hoping to hear from the son today, he thought he was moving and starting ATT but no confirmation as of yet. Perhaps he is in school?!

MORE CHANGES! LOL.
My son called twice yesterday. 2nd time to make sure we changed his satellite for th computer into our name so it wouldn't mess up his excellent credit. What does that say about us? lol.
Well, maybe thats an example for him of what NOT to do!!!
OK

He said he got moved in by where he had his night classes and is closer to his new school. NOW he says he is in some new program where they let him take some ATT classes and get him started in his A school. In other words, the ATT classes he takes prior to A school apply to what he is going to be learning in A school. Then they are going to allow him to take the rest of the ATT classes afterwards that don't particularly apply to A school so much as C school. Are you confused yet? Imagine me.

Here's the other thing I was particularly wondering about Mary. Our friends that met in the Navy (and probably influenced him) came over for dinner. I told them about the different systems and they said, "Well, he should pick what will help him in his civilian job-what can he do with Aegis, etc. ?" so Mary, what does your husband say- because you said the Navy helped him in his civilian life also.

I maybe wrong but I think the A school is the same for ETs and FCs - it's when they send them to C school that it gets into their specific systems.

We should know better on Tueday how long the current wait for ATT is from SCC. He finished SCC on Thursday and thinks ATT begins on Tuesday but will find out at muster in the morning and I will let you know. It might have started sooner but with the holiday weekend they may decided to start fresh on Tuesday.

My 80 yr. old sends me a fresh $10 bill each month for his cell phone ---- my kids on my plan never! But we have agreed that it is well worth the $10 to be able to hear from them.

He loves taking computers apart and rebuilding so ATT should be a great class for him. We have one corner in our basement that looks like a grave mine for computers - every old computer he could get his hands on - he has collected so he could build some super computer!

LynnDear - does your son have duty every 4th day in ATT?
Comment by Mary, Proud Mom of Nick on May 25, 2008 at 2:15am
Oh yea - cell phones! It is so nice that they can have them, we get to talk with our son just about everyday. I have yet to call him between class, sleep and duty - I just never want to call him at the wrong time but I'm thankful that he calls us just about every morning. It's been funny, he will call me at home and five minutes later my husband will call me and say...guess who called me? He and his dad have real bonding with this Navy/FC business.

We still use the family plan here, for 9.95 a month you can add those additional lines. So I have my kids on my plan as well as my 80 year old dad. Calls including long distance are free to each other with the mobile to mobile plan.

Our son seemed to really get something out of the financial class as well was excited about the credit earned and wanted us to move money from his check book into savings and he is taking advantage of some of options the Navy offers as well. I agree - if we would have made suggestions - not sure he would have heard. I think these guys have a Master plan - it's so nice that they are coming to it on their own!

Not worried about the drinking with our son, he turned 21 two days before leaving. His dad bought him a six back of Japanese beer (he was born there) he chuckled and said no thanks. We had a birthday dinner for him at a Mexican restaurant everyone was ordering margarita and his drink of choice was ice water. He was never a party child...so unlike his parents when they were 21!
