Join groups! Browse for groups for your PIR date, your sailor's occupational specialty, "A" school, assigned ship, homeport city, your own city or state, and a myriad of other interests. Jump in and introduce yourself! Start making friends that can last a lifetime.

OPSEC - Navy Operations Security

Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

DO be smart, use your head, always think OPSEC when using texts, email, phone, and social media, and watch this video: "Importance of Navy OPSEC."

I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. I will save up letters 'ntil I know where to send them. I won't tell him his stinky PT socks made me cry, I guess that constitutes bad news.

And to the bootcamp phone calls I got two or three calls and one of them were like an hour. Make sure if you have a love one in BC, you write them everyday and let them know how y'all day has been and etc. Also if you have anything bad to tell them about anything WAIT till he graduates.

Stay strong! I used to cry over seeing my husband's car in the driveway and thinking he was home for a split second. You can send things that fit in the letters like pictures, drawings, little things. They do not have much storage space at all just what is under their bed basically. I sent a song card one time and my husband said that he played it once and then the guy passing out the mail pulled the sound part out so it couldn't play anymore... so I guess that was a bad idea haha! I wrote a letter every day and would put song lyrics in them or pictures or would draw pictures. Just anything to allow them to think of home or brag on. The do love the pictures!

Comment by MrsS on January 21, 2010 at 1:30pm: Yesterday was my first full day, without my husband. I did good until I went home, started laundry and realized his clothes were still in the hamper. I lost it over his socks! Knowing that phone calls are coming help. I did write a letter, it was on a leftover Christmas card. Hopefully, that will make him laugh.
What kind of stuff can we send with letters in BC? pictures? articles? Any fun ideas?

Comment by navywife<3 on January 21, 2010 at 1:12pm: When my fiance was in bootcamp he called every saturday for a few weeks because he was the RPOC which was like in charge of the division but then he switched divisions (he was in a total of 4) and he couldnt call anymore but of course he got the I'm a saior call. I have heard that if your recruit is on good standings they get more phone calls.I hope you get lots :)

I know when my husband (well then boyfriend) was in bootcamp that he got to make like 3 phone calls. The one he got to make when he got to bootcamp for like 30 seconds. He got to make one about a month into bootcamp. And then he made the call to let us all know he was for sure graduating and was officially a sailor, like 2 days before graduation. THe two last calls were like 30 minutes each. They have a set amount of time and can call people until their time is up basically. I know my husband was in a bad division, so maybe if your sailor will get to call more :-) I hope this helps.
