Always keep Navy Operations Security in mind. In the Navy, it's essential to remember that "loose lips sink ships." OPSEC is everyone's responsibility.

DON'T post critical information including future destinations or ports of call; future operations, exercises or missions; deployment or homecoming dates.

I'm a Navy Wife and I created this group back when I was a girlfriend and my now husband had gone to bootcamp. Its funny because i joined this website when they had under 50 members. This website has been sooooo helpful and I met so many people on here that gave great advice. I made this group so that we could all come together and give eachother advice and share ideas. I see that this group is growing more and more by the day, Im happy to see that because so many wives/fiances/and girlfriends are clueless when it comes the military lifestyle. Not knowing what to expect and not knowing about deployments, bootcamp, duty stations, etc. I want this to be the place you all recommend because so many people on this site are knowledgeable and very helpful. Once again thanks for joining my group and i hope you get all the information you need. I dont get to log on as much as i used to but i try my best to get on here. Comment by Anti M on November 30, 2009 at 1:27pm: A chit starts the process, they are supposed to ask permission beforehand. And there will be paperwork after, there is always paperwork. Can he get in trouble? Maybe not... but he sure may get yelled at. The Navy owns him now, you weren't issued with the seabag as the saying goes. The Navy does take care of dependents, but sometimes it is viewed very dimly when the sailors acquire dependents then expect everything to run smoothly without following procedure.

Each situation is different, so your sailor must ask their command what they should do. Some chiefs and POs will give smart ass answers, so the sailor must insist on knowing what is the best way to go about doing things. Keep in mind that boot camp, A school and their first command will all do things differently. Be patient, but be aware marriage and the Navy involves more than just the two of you.

Comment by Anti M on November 30, 2009 at 1:13pm: They do not get paid "more", but they do draw a housing allowance, known as BAH. The Navy MIGHT assist with your move, depends on whether or not you are on the orders. There is also a DIY move where you are reimbursed. It has changed since I was in, and I know there are gals here going through the process right now. I hope they add their advice and experience.

If your fiance is an E-3 or below, or is in training status, they are supposed to run a special request chit through their chain of command before they marry. While the Navy cannot forbid them from marrying, they certainly want to know, and there are procedures and permissions which are supposed to be in place. I assume your sailor has taken care of all this, because a month is a darn short time to do that paperwork. They can't do it in boot camp, it must be run through their COC in A school or their new command. If he's planning on getting married between A school and his new command, well, they will be expecting a single sailor to show up, not one with a dependent. You may find a delay of several weeks before you can move, perhaps longer.

Comment by Anti M on November 30, 2009 at 11:40am: Homecomings... wonderful, but after a long deployment, there are a new set of issues to get through. he'll have been used to his routine and being a sailor, transitioning into a BF/hubby takes a little time. the first day or two may be wonderful, but both your routines are disrupted. It takes some time to settle back to each other. He may withdraw and not want to talk a lot, or he may want to take charge of everything. If he seems different, well, so do you. So take some honeymoon time and don't fight over stupid little things. Sometimes just being aware there can be a week or two of readjustment is all you need to get through it.
