Proud navy mom - Thanks so much and good luck to your daughter! Please let us know what she's doing in A-school on N4M so that the rest of us that have newbie GM's in the works have a better idea of what's going to happen LOL!

Beatrizm - How wonderful for your daughter!! I told Meaghan "Momma's" dream sheet is Hawaii, Japan, Italy LOL so I'm hoping that she'll really want to experience other cultures as well! Can't wait to hear about a beach master! Something new for me to learn about!

Does anybody know what a beach master does? My daughter has verbal orders for Japan once she's done with GM school, but says she is going to be a beach master. I was so surprised that she chose Japan, because initially she wanted to be stationed on the East Coast so she could be on a ship headed to Europe. Imagine my surprise when she told me the news! I'm so excited for her, though, what a terrific opportunity to spend time in another culture and get to know their customs and traditions.

She will be spending 25 days in San Diego before heading to Japan, because this beach master group's home base is actually San Diego. And she's hoping to come home after GM school, which ends October 29.

Sunny,her hair looks terrific, but I know it's a big change for her. And it is absolutely correct that it's better to do it before than let the Navy barbers have at it. BC will be difficult, but she will get through it. Write as often as you can, have everyone you know write to her, and depending on whose in charge of their ship, the musical cards gives everyone a little break. Kay is absolutely right that no news is good news. Some of the officers only let their sailors write once a week, and they have so much to do that it's difficult sometimes to write more often.

Girls tend to write more than boys about what they are going through, and some of the other BC moms that I met online suggested sending them letters with questions, so they could let you know the things you are curious about. THe phone calls are never long enough and you are so happy to hear from them that all the questions you have fly right out of your head.

Sunny- OMG Meaghan's hair is absolutely adorable. Good luck as she starts her journey. My daughter graduated 9/10 and is loving it. Can't wait to start GM school which should be around the end of the month if everything goes well.

Kelly - "shock" is a bit of an understatement LOL! That is not a happy face in the picture hahaha! That being said, her recruiter told her the BC barbers are more like butchers, so she is happy she had it done before she left!

Kay - How wonderful that you get to see your daughter again after such a "dry spell"!! Congrats on her assignment! We are ready.....I think LOL!

Oh, and Taryn's journey started Feb. 4th and she came home for the first time October 2nd. She was very excited to finally get out of what she called "Great Mistakes", but is more commonly known as "Great Lakes"!

My GM daughter just got home Friday for her first visit. She was in her dress whites and one of the first things she did was to show us her GM patch that she was so proud of. She will be joining the USS Stennis based in Bremerton WA. About a 7 hour drive across the state from home. She had her choice of a lot of wonderful places to go, but chose WA state to be closer to home. She was a fireball before she left for bootcamp, she is still a fireball....but a lot more of a fun fireball.
Sunny, this is a long journey...be patient....write her every day...and "No news is good news"....trust me on that one:)

Meaghan is a GM and leaves for BC on Wednesday 10/6! She got "the haircut" on Saturday! It didn't go well :( It didn't help that it was homecomming weekend and the salon was packed. She wouldn't open her eyes at all once they put her hair in the pigtails to cut them off. When it was all done, she started to cry, which made me cry, which made the stylist cry, which made all 11 other stylist and and all of their 11 homecoming customers become a little emotional as well. She actually left the salon with the hood of her hoodie over her head and wouldn't take it off all day. Sunday was better once she realized it wasn't too bad. I actually think it's cute and makes her look more mature, but she just wasn't having it. We donated her hair to Locks of Love! Wednesday is around the corner and I'm missing her already :( but she's VERY excited to go and VERY excited about her rate!!

Hello newbies! Glad to have you join in on the board! Alot of new ones coming in I see, wonderful! May all us 'older' crowd give you a congrats, and fire away (sorry for the pun!) the questions or give a 'shout out' and we shall try our best in answering. Dillons mom...I dont really think its so much that missles are harder, GM's, no matter the specialty, have there pro's and con's either way. Just best to go in the direction that is more interesting for him. No matter what specialty, they all help each other in the GM rate. Sometimes doing each others job at times. It is in your sons best interest Freier4 to stay at the top of his class as much as possible, that way he can get the place he puts on his dream sheet if is possible. Naturally, the needs of the Navy takes precedence, and places them where the need is greatest, but they do try to give them a choice when possible. Navygal88, glad to see you here, too! And how sweet of you to thank us...my dear, it is YOU we Thank!!! Congratulations, I think you will find it a wonderful career choice, learn all you can in DEP now, and keep up the PT, we are all pulling for you and sending you prayers along the way! :0}

I'm so happy that I found this group! Our son graduated 9/24 and will be attending A school in GL for small guns, he's in a hold until classes start sometime in October. I'm very anxious to learn as much as I can about GM's and we're hoping that he can be stationed in San Diego so we can see him as much as possible. We're in Phx so SD isn't too far to travel.
