"Darkhorse" is the name given to the 3rd Battalion, 5th Marine Regiment, the most highly decorated regiment in the Marines.  These young men are currently serving in Afghanistan.  There are five companies in this battalion and this represents a large number of Marines who would appreciate any love we can send their way.

Weapons Company received several care packages in December and then HAE moved on to Lima Company.  When all have finished up mailing their boxes, Lima Company will be put to "bed."  The next, and probably last company, we will do is Kilo Company.  There are about 170 Marines in this group, all males.  The mailing date for Kilo Company is February 7.   This should give us enough time to get sufficient pillowcases ready for mailing.  As with every project, we need to have sufficient pillowcases for each Marine in the company to receive one.

For OPSEC reasons, I would appreciate your letting me know via PM (make me a friend on N4M if I am not already one) the number of pillowcases you will send in your box.

Sue sent me this "Semper Fi" poster.  I watched the video about the Marines in Bethesda.  The attitude of the Marines who have suffered terrible injuries is absolutely amazing.  Here is a link with a video of Kilo Company.

Llove, I can include creamers and sugar in my box.
Tamara,   Thanks. There was just no way to get a single thing more in that box.

Heads at Ease's focus really is pillowcases.  But sometimes a need comes to us that is very difficult to pass up.

This marine unit is one of those needs.  These men are in Afghanistan in remote areas with very little in comfort items that we take for granted.

One of our HAE moms has had a lot of items donated for these marines, enough to fill 5 or 6 boxes.  But alas, the funds to mail this stuff are not there.  If anyone would love to sponsor a box for $12.50 please contact me.   Or maybe a part of the box.

My philosophy in life is "many hands make light work" (we just did that with the Lincoln), "some is better than none" and "it all adds up".

so if you have not gotten involved as yet with Heads at Ease and you want to, please consider sponsoring all or part of a box of items for our fine marines.  Let's show them what this small group of woman can do.

Dori - I am leaving momentarily to attend the funeral for the 3/5 Marine here. He was a member of the LIMA Company. I am meeting with one of the 3/5 Colonels today who has come to attend these services. Just for the record, this 3/5 regiment has 23 fallen to-date. I know we are preparing to send to LIMA next week, and have asked for a more direct POC for our packages, reason for meeting today with Colonel today. They are so grateful for our consideration of their 3/5 men and women. I will follow-up after today with more details.
Shirley, did you not get the address with the POC from me?  I sent it to you via PM.  Please let me know.
Michele, I have a POC for each company, given to me by a corporal working with the FRG.  What I could use is POC for memorial pillowcases.  Janice and I have been discussing these.  I have the 23 names but no way to deliver.  I can understand not wanting to give the address for the families but we don't want to do them and have them end up in a cabinet somewhere.  I have written to the FRG CPL contact but not heard back later.
when we did the fallen for the Ft Hood units, we had the addresses for all but 2 or 3 of them.  It must depend on the command.
Michele and I are working on it.

Hopefully I can post the pictures successfully here. Here are the 25 pillowcases I am sending to Lima Company this week.

They look great. It always amazes me that all of our pillowcases are different.

My 50 went out in the mail today and are on their way to Lima Co. along with some snacks and coffee.

Lyn, I agree.  I am surprised about how few times we duplicate fabric.

Tamara, they are lovely.  I love the polar bears!
