BECOMING A BONE MARROW DONOR

Brian is a Navy Sailor who has been diagnosed with Leukemia. He is going through Chemotherapy right now. The Doctor has informed the family that Lymphocytic Leukemia has a very high success rate with Chemo. Almost 90% PRAISE GOD Brian is at an Emory Georgia Hospital.

Sharon, Brian's mom is ONE tough cookie as well.

She is recuperating from a car accident.  I really hope she is not to overwhelmed with me mentioning this.

Sharon and her family need us Ladies. Brian is a very special guy, as are his family.

I would like to make a warm blanket for his comfort and warmth, for the young man as he goes through Chemo Therapy.

Here is the overall design

(20)

9" circles that can have any number of smaller circles, of any size

sewn on top of that 1- 9" circle

SEE EXAMPLES BELOW.

EACH BLOCK IS

1- 9" circle top stitched on a 10" square when finished.  These will all be stitched together to make

5 rows of 4 circles each. Overall dimension is 36" x 45"

If we get more blocks we will add to its length.

The 9" CIRCLE above it decorated with various smaller size circles placed on top?

circle%20ideas%20for%20each%20block.pdf

Please use Cotton Flannel Material for at least the 10" square...

If you would like to use regular cotton for the circles perfect

If everyone can get me their blocks in say a few weeks that would be wonderful.

Mid April

If you can not sew and can cut them out and iron on with Stitch Witchery that would be fine too.

I will then top stitch.

Be colorful and creative !

circle.pdf  Use the second largest circle on this template as the 9" circle-this template is used for another quilt pattern I will share later.

quilts%20mar%2021%202011%205%20%281%29.pdf

To each block I will add a warming sentiment at the center of the 9" Circle

"Here is the information she has shared with me regarding Brian.

"Thank you so much for caring.  I can't tell u how much it means to me . I think that would b very nice, since this is going to be a  long session.

We were told after this initial inpt he  has 7 mos of 4-5 days of in pt chemo 4 1/2 hrs from apt he then will have radiation for 2 mos., length & rx unknown rt know.

I had pt today, then thurs as well md vs good thing not tomorrow we're expecting any where from 4>9 ins of snow oh joy .

Do hope you're warm out there .

Finished chemo cycle last nite, now per husband Tom hes been nauseated ,tired since he basically doesn't have imunne system, told he'll have rough time next 7 days then will be starting to feel better .

I still have a hard time with this,I know GOD is with him, such a great young man.

Bri got his EMT while still in high school, thru Explorer scouts, also eagle scoutvolunteered til graduated, then got job as an emt ,was a vol firemen got several life saving awards emt of yr is a cerified rescue diver just an all around great son. I 've been lucky that I was able to contact several different denominations for prayers and that has kept me busy as well as fraternal orgs. that husband belongs to send cards.

Signing off for now try & be in touch again soon God Bless you.

oh mommas!!  i talked to Sharon (AuxLady) earlier and Emory Univ. Hospital has done a reevaluation on Brian and a revised diagnosis of Lymphocytic Leukemia and the doctors told Brian's dad that there is an 85% cure rate!!!  PRAISE THE LORD!!!

Brian still has a long road ahead of him. He will definitely be in the hospital for 27 more days and will be on a 27 day rotation of chemo.

yes Sharon is still crying,  yes she is worried sick and yes she wants to be with her son more than anything in this world BUT Sharon knows the power of prayer!!!  Boy Howdy! i'd say!!!

the family members never leave Brian's side.  they are working with the hospital to find more suitable and affordable accommodations.

this is all the definite news i have for now....i have read your posts...and you bet it's going to be a horrific toll on the family in so many ways.

i encouraged Sharon to do two things now....start a blog (she doesn't know how but has a friend who can show her) and go to the bank and tell them what has happened and maybe they can tell her about setting up a fund for all the expenses the family is facing. i really don't know anything about either one of those two suggestions but i had to put something "out there" for her to do while she is home alone.

Sharon's page is open on N4Ms and i believe even if you aren't a "friend" you can still post well wishes and encouraging words to her.  i had one of my Navy mom friends try it and it worked.

i will check back with you as soon as i know more.

i also suggested that Sharon log onto N4Ms as soon as she felt like it and see the responses...i read one to her to let her know what she is missing....she was blown away!

UPDATE APRIL 11

hello friends, i talked with AuxLady again tonight and pretty soon she'll be hugging that boy of her's and huggin' and kissin' that sweet grandbaby!!

the doctor has told her that she can travel albeit with lots of precautions!!! she has to stick around a little longer because there is a benefit for her son's behalf and he has asked her to attend.

dad is still right by his son's side never leaving him.

" Eagle Scout who became a certified Rescue Diver, EMT, a member of the FEMA Strike Team and a Lt. on the fire department. he LOVES being in the Navy!!!

please keep praying Mommas!!!!

Please go to Christian Chat group to keep up with Brian. I will post here as I find out but it is a great group of Ladies! God Bless

FROM CONNIE...

friends, tonight i spoke with Sharon (AuxLady) who's son Brian was stricken with leukemia and was sent to Emory Hospital in Atlanta.  Sharon is still having a hard time, she injured her shoulder in therapy and of course has those incredibly sad moments of not being able to be with her son. BUT i could hear hope and faith in her voice.

Brian will be admitted to Mayo Clinic in Jacksonville Fl. tomorrow for a course of treatment. he responded very nicely to the treatment at Emory and with the transfer to Mayo he will be 40 mins. from the home that he shares with his wife and infant daughter.

Sharon expressed her deep gratitude for all the wonderful prayers and support she has received.

i am sure Sharon will post here as soon as she can.

please keep praying for Brian.  Sharon has sent me a photo of Brian in the hospital at Emory with baby Elaina sleeping on his stomach with her little arm wrapped around her daddy.  Sharon has given me permission to repost the picture so you can see the Sailor you have prayed for...as soon as i can figure out how to get the picture off my phone!!! my smart phone has out-smarted me!!!

Remember ladies, you do not have to be a sewer!  Buy a few pieces of  beautiful 1/4 yard piece's  fabric. cut your circles in various sizes.  I will do the rest. If you have questions just post. I will try to be more clear

Also as long as the square is flannel your smaller circles can be plain cotton.

I hope I am being clear with idea and instructions. It truly is so much easier in person to show how simple this is !

Here is a poster of Brian and the benefit they had for him. What a sweet dear he is!

that's a nice poster of the event.
Almost finished stitching the front of Elaina's quilt for D~W~G... I put her name in one of the trees! I just love this font! Photo of the top will be posted when I get it finished!  Having such fun with this!

Picture before the top stitching !!

Thank you so very much for top stitching all of those down for me. My machine just does not make that BEAUTIFUL FINISHED EDGE!!!!! When you are done, let me know if you are going to also add the batting and secure it. I was hoping to leave the owls and the trees alone and quilt more in the open area between :)

I have the binding for top and bottom if you do not? I think I sent you the scallop pattern?

I am sending Brian's quilt off for quilting. When it gets back we will send both off. I still want to do some hand stitching when you are done my friend. We probably have another 2 weeks until it will go out. :) I am so jealous you have your machine!

I adjusted the color for you , so pretty peggy!!! :)  cant get it as green as it should be but oh well. I am just so excited to see it !!!
I have a few circles which need to be removed and sewn back on and to add the signed circles but, here is what I have so far.
I still have a few circles that need to be removed and put back on, they twisted. I am planning on top stitching with silk ribbon around some of the circles as well. But this is what I have so far. Peggy did the pretty Embroidery ! Thank you peggy!
