Hi, I am trying to decide if I should go to see my son in A School in San Antonio. It looks like he would be finished the last week in June and I know he would like us to be there for graduation. Although it sounds like it is common for sailors to have leave after A school. I was thinking about going down the first weekend in May for my birthday. Any recc’s about where you may have stayed or other thoughts? Many of the comments / info I see on here are quite dated so hoping to get some more current input. Thanks in advance!

Hi, I went to my son's A school graduation the end of March and the ceremony was very quick but nice, I also went down in February both times I stayed at Candlewood Suites Building 2426 it's on base and very nice!!

We visited during A school and also went for graduation.  I agree with mayawolf that staying on/by the base would be most convenient.  Since you are going for your birthday, you might want to check out the Hotel Emma and stay in the Pearl district.  It’s at the “arts” end of the Riverwalk and is a very cool place to hang out and has some great dining.  They have hotel specials all the time too so definitely ask.  Our son really enjoyed hanging out with us there, it was a nice break from being on base all the time.  I think it was about a 15 minute drive to the base from there if I remember correctly.

Thank you, did your sailor come home on leave after A School?

Yes my son came home after graduation and I believe the majority of his class took leave to go home.

I'll give an update in about 2 weeks as we leave this coming Saturday for San Antonio for our son's graduation.  His graduation is 4/25.   We haven't seen him since January 2.   Can't wait.  We will be there for a full week.   And we are hoping to see him just about every evening.  I will send you a friends request on here.

Thanks, have a wonderful trip!
Hope you had a wonderful time visiting your sailor for graduation! I’m going to book my hotel within the next few days, any tips?

We stayed at the Comfort Suites on Live Oak Street. It was a great location. One light and then you get on 281 to 35 and to the base. It was like 4 miles, very quick. No traffic issues. The hotel has free breakfast.  Cheaper than being right on the Riverwalk. Enjoy.

Thanks so much!
Thanks moms! Part of me is trying to justify the cost for going twice within 6 weeks. But I do miss him a bunch. This is really helpful. Make it a great day!
