Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of January (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have January ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in January, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Hello everyone, It has been hard on me today.  My son left on Jan 6th going to MEPs, but he flew out today heading to GL to start BC and I am so proud of him.  It is 11:30 PM and I am waiting for him to call me.  It has been very stressful since the weather is so bad. He did text me around 7:30 PM to tell me he was getting ready to head to Chicago from his layover.  This the last that I have heard from him.  Hopefully he will call soon.

Viv...you will get a call tonight. Some recruits get to the airport a bit early and they wait (depending on how many are flying in tonight) until they are all there in the USO where they are instructed to meet up. Then once they've all arrived, the will be led to a bus that will take the to RTC. It's about a 45 minute ride from the airport. Your call should come shortly after they arrive at RTC. It will be a really quick call. It will come from his cell phone. It will sound (because it is) scripted. You might get a quick "I love you" in there and he will say "I gotta go"....it's a hard call. Bur, if you are prepared for the quickness of it, you'll be able to handle it better. That will be the last call from his cell and then he will be instructed to turn it iff. It will then go into his "kid in a box" package that he will mail home in a few days.
our Florida kids MUST be icicles by now....

Got a text around 8:52pm from my son that he arrived in Chicago. Hoping to still get the call when he arrives at RTC.

My son flew out of Tampa on Monday.  Got the phone call at 12:50 a.m.  He flew out with about 12 recruits from the Tampa area.  He called as they were running from the United terminal to the Delta terminal where the USO office is at (approximately 3-4 city blocks) and told us he had never been so cold.  He couldn't feel his face.  So for those of you who have sons/daughters arriving in Chicago today, it's even colder than Monday night.  I pray for our Florida children as most are experiencing this weather for the first time.  The Navy will keep them warm, I'm sure.  Good luck to all of us.

Any one on here have a son or daughter leave out of Jacksonville, Fl today? My son last text I received was around 4:30 from my son at the airport, but I don't know what time his flight was scheduled to leave.

My son's flight out of Florida was supposed to leave at 3pm today. It was delayed until around 5:30. I received a text at 8pm letting me know he arrived safely. Yesterday was brutal for me but today I kept busy so my day went quickly. I've smothered him so much lately that I think he was happy to get on that plane and take the first step towards Navy manhood!! God bless our babies!

My son was able to fly out of Florida at 5:30 PM today so hopefully it was a direct flight. He expects to arrive in Chicago at 6:54 PM. Weather in Chicago right now is -2 with snow expected tomorrow, brrr!
