Hello everyone and welcome to the Navy!!! This Group was started for the loved one of DEPPERS leaving in the month of March (although everyone is welcome).......What year you say? Well ......any year!

If you have March ship out issues/questions etc., need specific information, (or have some to share) or just want to talk to someone that is where you are, with a Recruit leaving for and arriving in BC in March, ...then this is the place to be. :-)

Remember, don't "miss 'em while you're with them!" :) Make the most of every precious moment together before they leave. This will be a big transition for both of you! We'll be here for you every step of the way...
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Things to do in the last month before your future sailor leaves (Click on the link.)

Once your recruit has arrived at RTC, the next stop here is to join the group Boot Camp for Moms (and loved ones)  Hangout and ask questions in this group until your form letter arrives.

***New news just out today (9/25/19) from the US Navy Recruit Training Command FaceBook page:
Attention families and friends of RTC: Previously, upon arrival to boot camp, recruits would box up their civilian belongings and ship it to their choice of destination. Our new procedure now has those boxes being stored locally and will be returned to the recruits the day before graduation. The new procedure went into effect this week beginning with Div. 409 in Training Group 52.

Approx two to three weeks after your recruit arrives you will receive the "Form Letter". The form letter will include their Ship# , DIV #, their mailing address, PIR date, and the Security Access Form. The Security Access form needs to be completed and sent back to your recruit ASAP. Keep this letter in a safe place, it has the information you will need.

The date that is on the form letter is the official date for your Recruit's Training Groups PIR (graduation), Things can always change for an individual Recruit (due to illness, injury, failure to pass a final test etc.)! So, we always recommend that you plan, if possible, to purchase Refundable or Exchangeable plane tickets.

After you have received the form letter, join the group for your recruits PIR. There you can ask questions about PIR, training, hotels etc. Those groups will be posted in the Boot Camp for Mom's group.

Thanks for joining us. We hope you will realize you are not alone, and will soon make new friends, plus feel supported and encouraged! :)

**It is very important that your future Sailor be physically fit prior to shipping to the RTC (these are new standards beginning 1/1/2018) and that he be able to pass an initial run test. See Navy Fitness Standards"The initial run standard is evaluated on the 1.5 mile run of the first Physical Fitness Assessment (PFA) at boot camp. The initial run standard for male recruits will be 16 minutes 10 seconds and 18 minutes 37 seconds for female recruits."

Cmom so glad to read things are getting better!

I'm attempting to plan a surprise going away party from over 200 miles away and I'm not having much luck, invites went out last night and I mailed the nautical flag banner I made (spells our last name) to the location, cake has been ordered, but they won't let me pay for it over the phone, guess I'll be writing checks to all my helpers...

I had a dream last night, it was about all of us, boxes were being received and there was a lot more laughing through tears as everyone shared first phone calls and notes in the boxes, hard to believe this is really it, it's almost March...hugs to ALL of you and your recruits!!!

Today my son really began struggling. I thought he had been holding up way better than I have until this afternoon. With Wednesday quickly approaching, I think the reality of leaving is hitting. We're having a party for him on Saturday and I'm hoping that helps him. He's been very open and has been talking with us about how he feels. We haven't always been close but the last 3 years have been great. I am so glad we've had this time together but I almost think it's harder to watch him get like this now than to be upset myself. Just so many emotions we're all facing.

DMinnesotaMom - I will change your name on the calendar - you had me wondering who you were - thought I had missed someone for our calendar!! I was just about to send you a message to ask you i f you had someone leaving in March - whew -   you really had me going!!!  lol :o)

Well, we just met with the recruiter - to get final details for next week!  To think - this is the last Tuesday night my son will have at home - I can't hardly believe it! It almost doesn't seem real!  Surprisingly I didn't even shed a tear while talking with the recruiter!! So proud of myself! (big girl panties really work!!  he he he)

Things are going better for my son and I - I think this last weekend was just a climax to my son's and my feelings - hopefully we got everything 'out of the way' and can now just enjoy these last 6 days together!

forevermom,  Our son's will be at boot camp together, in a different area than fleet. Since my son is Diver and leaving on 7th and yours is EOD leaving on the 8th, I am sure they will be in the same class.

EOD is amazing, I wish him so much luck. My son is currently training with a few EOD's leaving later this spring, so I have heard many stories about what they do.  WOW!

It's not even that I can't talk to him, he has been away, sleep away camp, boarding school, 2 years of college, etc.  I think it's the unknown for me, as well as, fear of failure for him.  He has a brutal road ahead and the drop out rate is big.  He has a Navy Diver contract and although he is ready both mentally and physically, you just never know.....

I guess once I can start to talk to him, like you said, and I know he is doing well things will be brighter.

Thanks, you just helped me talk myself into a better mood!  lololol!

Kathy, Thanks!

I already laminated a couple of pictures (wallet size) and a 2 small notes that I laminated too, so it does not get ruined.  He has not seen this yet and will put it in his wallet right before he leaves on the 7th. Along with stamps and his SS card (not laminated, lol!)

I am so freaking anxious and nervous, It JUST hit me, big time!  Still smiling, though!  : )

Ozzy -- nice party!

Maggie -- I think we're all ready and none of us is ready at the same time. Good thing there's always Navy4Moms.

We had my son's going away party on Saturday night, just family about 16 of us.  It was so great!  He loved every minute of it.  Very touching.  We went to my mothers house first for drinks and appetizers and she decorated her living room with a banner and balloons for him, and a basket of small items like an address book, stamps, candy, a military brush (we all laughed at that one) a calling card with 150 mins, an AmEx card.  So thoughtful of her.

I bought "The John McCain Navy Hat" (a baseball hat in navy blue with gold NAVY letters) for my son to give to everyone as a thank you for coming and think of me gift. He made a very nice little speech and handed them out, a BIG hit.

I made a book from mypublishers.com with lots of family/friends/vacation photograghs and he LOVED  it.  It was fun to pass around.

Then off we went to his favorite restaurant and we had a wonderful and delicious time.  It was sad watching him hug everyone goodbye, I had to look away.

This Friday will be his friends party at our house. We did not want a big bash so we told him just a few close friends, ending up with 11 total.  My husband and I will cook dinner and dessert, and my son wants a nice sit down dinner with everyone.  Should be fun!

We are winding down here folks!
