Lowering of Flag Ceremony Every Evening At Dusk & history of the Base

It's well worth taking the time to see the Flag Lowering Ceremony!

THE BUILDING OF LEMOORE NAS

In 1954, the Navy searched the Northern California-Nevada area for land to build a master jet air station - one with congestion free air space.

Lemoore was chosen because of its central location, good weather for flying, relatively inexpensive land and the nearby accommodations. Construction started in 1958. With base housing, administration facilities and the flight training areas in operation, the air station was commissioned on July 8, 1961.

Located in the San Joaquin Valley approximately 40 miles south of Fresno, CA, nearly 5,000 military and 1,000 civilian employees work onboard, with an average payroll of $120 million per year.

NAS Lemoore's primary mission is to support fleet carrier squadrons. The heart of this mission is the operations area. Designed to support more than twenty fleet squadrons, it serves as a master training center for carrier-based strike fighter squadrons of the United States Pacific Fleet.

We are headed to sunny Lemoore next week to visit our son! He's been there for over a year and we are excited to finally see the base and meet his buddies. I'll post when we return and let everyone know how it was! Hope everyone is well and enjoying the summer!

Oh btw, I changed my profile name from SamsmySailor to just my first name. The Moms from another group chewed me out a few weeks ago (and rightfully so) when I joined the group of the ship my son is assigned to for (unintentionally) giving out too much info, so I'm being extra careful now.

Hi everybody! I have not been on here in a while but just check in every now and then. My son will be leaving Saturday for an inland detachment for a month and his birthday falls 2 weeks after Friday. So does anyone know if they get mail at the temporary location or will they have to wait until they return back to home base?

Hi everyone I need some advice:( My boyfriend is heading to Lemoore soon and I was planning on moving out to the area after I graduate, pry fresno or hanford but I am really stressed about the whole thing.  He seems to think that he will be able to leave base to visit me a lot but I think I am going to end up being alone a lot.  Bascially I am asking for advice on what I should do from people who have experienced it or any suggestions on housing in those areas.  Maybe some help will help me not be so pessimistic toward him about the whole thing. :/

ps. I know I cannot live on base and that he cannot live off base

Hi Kate,
Thanks for your message.  I had to look up what FRG means.
So nice of you to help all the families.  Thanks!

Idaho_Ma my husband is an AT in 151. I am also the commands FRG president. Let me know if you need anything!

Yep!  Post Falls here.  The VAQ squadrons are based in Whidbey Island, but are assigned to strike groups which are assigned to Carriers.  When the carrier deploys, the squadron will join them at their base to head out with them.  My daughter's squadron is assigned to the Eisenhower and I believe they will be going out in a year or so.  It's the same for the VFA squadrons.  You can google which ship your daughter's squadron is attached to.

Hi Jill!  I remember talking to you on here before.  You live in Post Falls, don't you?
My daughter told me she's staying in Lemoore after C School.  She will be with squadron VFA-151. She got to Lemoore on a Wednesday and started school the next day!  She was pretty tired of mopping the same hall for weeks at Pensacola, so she didn't mind.

Is your daughter's squadron based out of Whidbey Island, or are they there getting ready to deploy?  I'm curious how this all works.

Comment by Jill (ATO Mom) on March 8, 2014 at 5:55pm

Hi Mary,  You're from Idaho, eh?  Me too :-)  She should get an address very soon, not sure if it would be the same for everyone.  My daughter did C school for ATO in Lemoore, but then left to join her squadron of Growlers at Whidbey Island, WA.  Do you know if your daughter is staying at Lemoore, or if she's only there for C school.  She's lucky to have started school so quickly, my daughter was on hold for 6 weeks and did a lot of cleaning :-)  Welcome!

Comment by Idaho_Ma on March 8, 2014 at 5:47pm

Hi Everyone,

My sailor just got to Lemoore, after finishing A School in Pensacola.  She already started C School for ATO.

Does anyone know the mailing address for sailors training at CNATTU?

Thanks, Mary
