My daughter Alicia returned to Sault Ste Marie today after church. For the 5 hour trip she said the roads were fine except for the wind advisory in Northern MI and the UP. They were excorting about 20 vehicles at a time over the Mackinac Bridge - cars in the inside lane over the grate (she usually avoids that) and going max of 25 mph--she arrived safely back to her place.

We got about 5" Thursday and they weren't kidding when they said they were going to send out the road crews sparingly. I chose the slowest route to school yesterday and we crawled part of the way....never accelerating on a long stretch of road. Thomas was late to school and I was late to work, but arrived safely. Doubt they'll plow our subdivision at all.

Annette - thanks for all the info on Erick. I find it very interesting to hear about the different sailors and rates and how the processes go for our sons/daughters. Katie is in Japan and with daylight savings time she is 14 hours ahead of us. When she is in port, her 'shift' starts at 7 am and can go until 4 or 5 or.....Katie did 4 days of RAP while she was here for Christmas. They had her speak to one of the DEP gathers about BC, among other things.

Annette - where is Erick stationed? Katie is a DC on the USS Essex out of Sasebo. She was able to be here for Christmas and was to report on Monday, but her flight was delayed from Detroit to Chicago and then delayed again en route to Tokyo. Katie and other sailors missed their connecting flight to Fukuoka. United only has 1 at 5:45 pm local time each day - so they put them up in a hotel, she called her 1st officer to let him know the situation. Katie says she is not alone, another flight also missed their connection.

Katie and Alicia plan on leaving Sault Ste Marie the morining of December 23rd. Tonight they are out celebrating Katie's 20th birthday and Alicia has to work on the 22nd, otherwise they would leave tomorrow. I'll give them a call to see if it would be better to leave the 22nd or wait until the 23rd. Thanks for the 'heads up' ;)
